Clinical Placement Specilalist



The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Clinical Placement Specialist to support the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, Physician Assistant Studies Hybrid program, in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. This position will work to support clinical education which involves the management the clinical placement process by overseeing the clinical agreements and student placement, management of the web-based platform for clinical education information coordination, ensuring site specific clinical requirement compliance, assistance with curricular materials and events, distribution/collection, management, and analysis of surveys and evaluations, record keeping, scheduling of orientation sessions, managing the clinical year handbook, among other responsibilities. Provides relevant program and reportable information. This position is the first point of contact for clinical students and preceptors and the incumbent must be able to act independently and make decisions based upon policies and procedures. The incumbent must have strong attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills to develop a rapport and good working relationship with faculty, students, other staff, and University departments as well as clinical sites and preceptors.

  • Conducts outreach to potential placement sites and secures opportunities for student clinical placements, ensuring alignment with accreditation and professional requirements.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with placement sites. Facilitates communication and coordination between placement sites, students, faculty, and other stakeholders to optimize the placement experience for all parties involved.
  • Liaises with internal and external stakeholders throughout the placement process, providing guidance, updates, and support as needed.
  • Evaluates on-site supervisors/preceptors to ensure their suitability for providing student supervision and support during clinical placements.
  • Ensures students meet all site-specific and regulatory requirements before beginning their placement hours
  • Identifies, secures, and matches students to appropriate placement sites and supervisors/preceptors, considering program requirements and student preferences.
  • Manages the web-based platform for coordinating clinical education information to include creating site, cohort, and student profiles within the system. Provides training sessions for the platform.
  • Collects and organizes relevant clinical education documentation from placement sites and preceptors for program review and compliance purposes.
  • Gather, organize and disseminate data related to student and site feedback and evaluations including midpoint evaluations, student evaluation of preceptor, student evaluation of site, preceptor evaluation of student, block requirement completion, End of Rotation scores, and Clinical Year Student Progress unto competency
  • Ensure accreditation compliance of all site and preceptor data include maintenance of active preceptor license, certifications, CVs, attestations and vetting documentation
  • Evaluate instructional needs and support faculty with the design of instructional materials, facilitation of instructional events and the integration of instructional technologies
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Summary

Initiates, develops and manages the clinical placement process by overseeing the clinical affiliation agreement and student placement. Manages the web-based platform for clinical education information coordination. Ensures site specific clinical requirement compliance including immunizations, background checks, certifications, licenses, health forms, and drug screenings. Provides relevant program and reportable information.

Minimal physical effort is required. Periods of standing, packaging of materials, lab set-up etc. Potential long periods of sitting
