Earn a competitive salary between $98 - 117k annually, based on years of experience.

Position Summary: The Director of Nursing (DON) has the twenty-four (24) hour responsibility for nursing care of residents through the performance of the nursing personnel. This position is responsible for providing a “system of care” for residents in a manner and environment that promotes maintenance or enhancement of each resident’s quality of life and provides dignity and respect in full recognition of each resident’s individuality. The DON establishes policies, procedures, objectives, and work standards while directing the nursing personnel in a manner which ensures quality resident care. The DON is required to maintain a professional philosophy which grows and adapts to the prevailing philosophy of the industry and imparts this philosophy to the nursing staff. This position is responsible for ensuring that the “system of care” meets all federal, state, and local regulations. The DON reports to the Healthcare Administrator.


  1. Coordinates resident care programs to include:  The Interdisciplinary Assessment and Resident Care Planning Team; The Restorative Care Program; other programs necessary to ensure optimal care.

  2. Takes overall responsibility for Medicare functions within the Health Center, i.e. coverage decisions and notifications, appropriate documentation, adherence to federal regulations with regard to Medicare, etc.

  3. Acts as liaison between resident, family, physician, and care team.

  4. Demonstrates a positive, flexible, and cooperative manner with the members of the Interdisciplinary Care Team to maximize the effect of the Care Team within the organization.

  5. Maintains an environment which acknowledges and supports each resident’s right to make choices regarding their surroundings and care. Ensures that all resident rights as listed in the Resident’s Bill of Rights will be honored and respected by all members of the staff.

  6. Develops and maintains departmental objectives, standards of nursing practice, the nursing policy and procedure manual, and assists Human Resources with written job descriptions for each level of nursing personnel.

  7. Ensures appropriate staffing, using agency only when all other staffing possibilities are exhausted.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college in a related field, degree from accredited school of nursing or equivalent experience. A current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia, a minimum of one (1) year of experience with management or supervisory in geriatrics and be knowledgeable of state and federal regulations in the long-term care and assisted living setting.


  1. Recent experience as a Manager/Supervisor within the last 3 years, preferably in a SNF/LTC environment.

  2. Ability to prioritize patient/resident care, by making connections with our residents, their families, and our staff.

  3. Ability to collaboratively problem solve.

  4. Experienced with electronic charting.

  5. Ability to empower the team by providing tools for success.
