Job Description:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 


  • Develop Tracker programs using model-based definition and/or blueprints for Leica & Faro Laser Tracker using Spatial Analyzer software.

  • Develop programs using models or blueprints for PCMM using PC-DMIS software.

  • Subject matter expert and skilled technical knowledge in developing inspection solutions.

  • Oversees, develops, and conducts inspections on components and tools using CAD and GD&T information with portable and stationary Coordinate Measuring Machines.

  • Analyze drawings and model data to determine optimal measurement routine and work holding.

  • Work with process experts to determine the best control plan for each part.

  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineers, Quality Engineering, and Shop Floor management in new program creation/release and program changes that improve quality and throughput.

  • Working with Quality team to define and document sample plans for each part.

  • Create detailed inspection plans with ballooned drawings using DISCUS software.

  • Create and maintain program library ensuring revision control.

  • Able to validate first piece runs meet drawing intent.

  • Must have a Lean manufacturing mindset in the shop including set-up time reduction, overall waste reduction, and reduced variation between machines and programs.

  • Functions as a valued team member providing technical guidance to machinists daily.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS: 


  • Experience with CAD (AutoCAD or SolidWorks), and ability to read and interpret blueprints.

  • Advanced knowledge of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Ability to write legible reports and findings, using basic programs such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

  • Understanding of basic statistical process control, probabilities, and sampling plans.

  • Understanding of basic quality concepts, philosophies, and tools as well as of quality standards such as ISO, AS9100 or other quality management systems and manufacturing processes and capabilities.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects, in multiple environments and locations.

  • Expert in developing inspection methods, inspection planning and providing feedback to improve product and tool designs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Minimum 3 years applicable experience required

  • 2 years minimum directly related experience working with Laser Trackers OR Portable CMM

  • Strong competence using off-line Metrology programming software 

  • Extensive knowledge of GD&T as well as aerospace specifications

  • Familiarity with SolidWorks or other model-based CAD system

  • Competency in surface plate inspections and metrology

  • Motivation and focus on assigned tasks 

  • Strong background in fabrication, equipment, and techniques

  • Understands value of time and materials

  • Effective problem-solving skills

  • Must be able to pass an ITAR-grade background check and be a US Citizen or Permanent resident

Preferred Qualifications


  • 5 years minimum directly related experience working with Laser Trackers or Portable Arm

  • Experience machining parts for aerospace, defense, power generation or medical industries

  • Spatial Analyzer or PC-DMIS programming, 3+ years

  • 2 or 4-year technical degree from an accredited university or technical college (AS or BS)

  • Formal lean and six sigma training, Green Belt certification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Ability to walk or stand for long periods, lift to 50 pounds, stoop, climb, and use ladders to perform various inspection tasks and studies

  • Handling and moving objects- Using hands and arms in handling, positioning, and moving materials

  • Must be able to stand, squat, bend, crawl, reach

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Manufacturing environment: May be exposed to loud noises, changing temperatures, machinery with moving parts, and exotic materials.

  • Adhere to and abide by all ITAR-specific job standards and training.  Protect and properly safeguard ITAR-sensitive information and work product; ensure dissemination or disclosure of and access to “protected data” occurs only with those trained and approved for exposure to ITAR content
