Job Description:

The Department of Organizational Excellence at Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas has an exciting internship opportunity for a motivated student (undergraduate/graduate) in the field of Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Project Management, Statistics or Data Science. We are looking for a student with a strong interest in getting some hands-on experience with research and data analytics, quality assurance, and program evaluation.

Strong candidates should demonstrate basic training in both quantitative and qualitative research methods and experience with statistical analyses. The intern will be working closely with the Organizational Excellence team on several organizational projects around quality as the intern will have an opportunity to practice their research skills, develop an understanding of the fundamentals of program evaluation, develop and analyze OE-related project plans, metrics and dashboards.

Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Data & Analytics, the intern will receive weekly supervision to ensure learning objectives and performance metrics have been developed for continuous quality learning.


  • Hourly Pay:  $18.00 an hour

  • Internship Timeframe:  6 months

Organizational Excellence Intern will have the opportunity to gain experience in the following areas:


  • Assist data cleaning and preparation for analysis.

  • Perform statistical analyses under supervision and mentorship.

  • Assist the design of pertinent evaluation studies, data tools, and guidance documents.

  • Assist in collecting and analyzing qualitative data (i.e., interviews, text analysis, and document review).

  • Serve as a liaison between the OE team and program team, answer questions about data interpretation, and help prepare needed data for meetings.

  • Participate in learning/professional development sessions and events at VOACC

  • Miscellaneous tasks as assigned.

Eligibility for Internship:


  • Must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate college or university.

  • Must be able to commit to a full semester, at least 15 hours per week (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter)

  • Provide a resume and 300-word cover letter, indicating internship choice and reason to be accepted.

  • Meeting the application submission deadline and including all required information.

  • Must have acceptable Criminal Background check, and Negative Drug Screening

  • Exceptions may be made for internships required for the attainment of a professional certification under the guidance of a recognized professional certification board.
