The Employer Relations & Program Coordinator establishes and strengthens relationships with organizations to help satisfy their talent needs and support the career goals of Tech students and alumni. These external organizations can be located in Fort Wayne, geographic areas with concentrations of the university's online students, or elsewhere. The coordinator also supports collaboration efforts between employer/community partners and Tech faculty/staff. Additionally, as a member of the Career Center team, they help the center run smoothly and efficiently by performing a variety of event-planning and administrative tasks. This work occurs in many forms which include learning about organizations' talent needs, teaching organizations about Tech's students and programs, connecting needs with opportunities, marketing resources and events to students, planning events, creating content, utilizing university information systems and platforms, and tracking event participation.







Essential Duties & Responsibilities



  • Establish and strengthen relationships with targeted employers and organizations through site visits, lunches, association meetings, advisory boards, event invitations and follow-up, etc. The purposes of these relationships are to:

  • Develop ongoing marketing strategies and content to increase students' awareness of opportunities and bring greater visibility of the university to relevant employers and industries.

  • Increase the quantity and quality of employer interactions on campus which come in the form of campus tours, mock interviews, career development events, guest speakers, and information tables.

  • Advise and counsel employers about the most effective means of identifying potential job candidates to meet their specific needs, including, but not limited to class activities, job postings, internships, and career fairs.

  • Play a consultive and instructive role in developing and functioning advisory boards for academic units.

  • Grow the number of internships, projects, and full-time employment opportunities advertised to the university's students.

  • Ensure employers receive quality customer service by providing prompt attention when needed, accurate and current information, appropriate guidance, appreciation for participation, consideration of unique talent needs, and requests for feedback.

  • Apply knowledge of Tech's academic programs and student populations to direct employers to relevant programs, faculty/staff, resources, and opportunities.

  • Consider local and national employment market trends and their potential impact on the training and hiring of college students and graduates.

  • Promote Tech and the Career Center through participation in professional organizations.



  • Support the Career Center's operations by helping with administrative tasks including:

  • Working closely with the Career Center team to plan projects and events which include organizing career fairs, employer info tables, mock interviews, employer site tours, and off-campus meetings with organizations.

  • Sharing responsibility for the management of the general Career Center email box through direct response or forwarding messages to other team members.

  • Recording, considering, and applying data related to employer relations, graduation outcomes, and student engagement.

  • Monitor center's inventory of supplies and gifts for employers and events then replenish when necessary.

  • Consult with colleagues in Center and across campus to develop more efficient processes when appropriate.


  • Strategize with the Career Center team to formulate methods for achieving greater success for employers and students based on information such as labor market demand for specific skills, participation rates of differing student populations, and patterns of internship locations of Tech students.


    • Participate as a team member in activities related to the goals and objectives of the unit.

    • Contribute to the overall success of the Career Center by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.







    Qualifications



    • Completion of college degree required in human resources, communication, marketing, student affairs, business, or related fields. Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred.

    • Minimum of two years of experience in recruiting, human resources, sales, college admissions, office administration, career services, student affairs, or other related fields.

    • Desire and aptitude to actively apply critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to become an engaged member of a high-functioning team and support continuous improvement of the Career Center's work.

    • Strong communication skills, including interpersonal, written, and public speaking.

    • Comfort using internet resources, information systems and applications, and MS Office Suite (particularly Excel, Teams, Word, PowerPoint).

    • Interest in working with employers to support economic growth and with students to serve their career development needs.

    • Past involvement or interest in planning events and facilitating meetings.

    • Appreciation and respect for the diversity of strengths, experiences, and perspectives that a multicultural body of students and alumni provide to the workforce and community.

    • Possession of self-motivation, attention to detail, flexibility and adaptability, organization skills, and willingness to try new things.

    • Ability to occasionally travel to other cities in the Midwest to meet with employers.

    • Ability to adjust to changing needs and processes while anticipating challenges, identifying problems, and developing solutions






    Working Conditions


    Work is normally performed in a typical interior office environment. Regular local travel to employers and events is required. Regional travel is occasionally needed.
