Job Summary



This is a unique opportunity for a talented, motivated communications leader to create and advance executive communications in support in the Office of the Provost and IU's strategic plan. Areas of focus include writing and editing, research and idea development, project management and event support, and collaboration on campus initiatives and engagements.


Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Creates and supports executive communications for the Provost and the Office of the Provost, including remarks, presentations, announcements, talking points, proposals, reports, award nominations, and other wide-ranging content.

  • Facilitates planning and preparation for campus and community engagements involving the Provost, other senior leaders, and key initiatives supported by the Provost¿s office, providing project management, fact-finding and research, and connections with appropriate faculty, staff, and community members.

  • Supplementally provides facilitation, content creation, and support for other multidisciplinary and campuswide events, committees, celebrations, initiatives, and communications planning, as well as related media channels, as needed.

  • Exercises diplomacy, tact, and excellent judgment, using discretion in sensitive and confidential matters.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Creates additional public content, including feature stories, press releases, media advisories, website content, multimedia elements, etc., on key campus and office initiatives and collaborates with office and campus partners on distribution.

  • Collaborates closely with staff in the office, the Office of the Chancellor, the Office of the President, University Communications and Marketing, Events and Ceremonies, and other campus and community stakeholders and event sponsors on shared engagements, initiatives, and creative projects.

  • Monitors campus and industry trends and best practices and makes process and operational recommendations as appropriate.

General Responsibilities


  • Independently creates basic and complex communications for print and e-distribution on behalf of department or large multi-faceted department and in support of departmental goals and objectives; communications may be interdepartmental; staff, faculty, or student-focused; or external.

  • Responds to inquiries and requests and explains policies, procedures, and context of communications.

  • Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders and creates communications coverage for relevant initiatives, events, and programs.

  • Prepares communications timelines and shares progress of communications toward relevant deadlines with manager, team members, and other relevant constituents.

  • Regularly monitors relevant social media and news sites; researches relevant subject matter to increase knowledge in area(s) of specialty.

  • Utilizes various communications software programs and delivers communications in multiple formats to a variety of audiences.

  • Monitors industry trends and best practices and makes process and operational recommendations to manager.

  • May provide guidance to lower-level Communications Generalists.

EDUCATION



Required



  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, public relations, or related field

Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary



$70,000 - $75,000 per year, based upon experience.
