Summary:
Reporting to the Plant Manager, this position is responsible for assisting with creating and communicating the overall safety and environmental program while identifying applicable regulations and risks in the North America. The position will closely interact with Operations, Legal, HR, and other staff functions to help assure compliance in all locations.
General Duties:
Establish, implement and maintain a Safety Management System according to international standards (ISO45001) and good health and safety practice
Coordinate HSE topics and facilitate mutual cooperation
Establish, implement and maintain safety standards (policy, regulations and instructions) and programs
Develop, implement and review leading and lagging indicators and prepare accident statistics and ensure Group reporting of HSE data
Monitor the HSE performance, initiate improvements and specific safety programs
Support and assist the Business Area, Legal Entity, manager and employees in HSE topics
Assessment of OH&S risks and other risks to the OH&S management system (Job Safety Analysis, Risk Process Assessment, Environmental Hazards,
Review and assess the training needs and establish, develop and coordinate safety training as required
Execute HSE audits and inspections at the locations and construction sites
Conduct and coordinate audits as well as follow-up on implementation of audit observations
Develop safety communication plan and establish communication routines and coordination meetings
Implement the HSE reporting policy including ad hoc reporting for accidents
Communicate safety notifications and lessons learned to all divisions
Cooperate with Group HSE Officer, HSE Managers in the various Business Areas and the Regional Safety Coordinator
Support the management and the employees regarding safety issues, particularly workplace planning, implementation of new work processes, procurement of new equipment and substances, selection of personal protective equipment as well as training
Support the management with regard to correction of deficiencies
Coordinate safety topics with the competent persons nominated, the works council and the authorities
Implement and maintain HSE regulations and Group policies in the legal entity
Develop and implement local procedures and safety instructions
Implement the safety program for the legal entity
Monitor the HSE performance, initiate improvements and safety programs
Implement global safety training in the legal entity
Compile reports (accident, incident, leading indicators, lagging indicators, monthly site reports) and ensure Group reporting of HSE data
Implement and maintain a process of workplace risk assessments
Analyze work incidents and accidents and serious near misses
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree preferred in Engineering, EHS, or related field; 7-10+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the paper industry. Must have strong Knowledge of EHS Regulations & Program requirements. CSP, CPEA, CIH, CHMM or equivalent certifications is strongly desired.
Requires proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint with the ability to generate concise and accurate reports and presentation materials. May be required to attend professional development classes/seminars to maintain proficiency for safety and environmental compliance.
Requires frequent travel to North America locations with Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and lift < 35 pounds
