Basic Job Purpose:



This position leads the strategic and operational aspects of Production and Facilities Equipment Maintenance at BD Mebane, North Carolina, with the goals of maintaining a safe work environment, maximizing equipment availability and reliability, while optimizing cost. Responsibilities include collaboration with all functions to support the achievement of Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost goals; complying with all applicable regulatory codes and norms; managing personnel, budget, spare parts, and all aspects of maintenance planning and execution for both production and facilities equipment, such as steam generation, chilled water, compressed air, DI water, power, etc. Oversees the management of required facilities related contracts, aligns with BD Excellence best practices and leads a team of Maintenance Technicians and a maintenance coordinator.



Main Accountabilities:



Overall plant maintenance strategy, and performance. Identifies and manages the obsolescence of critical plant assets. Creates, plans, and schedules for projects that may include purchasing and installing/validating new equipment. Supports with investigation and requirements of CAPA/NCMRs. Develops, coaches and manages the performance of direct reports. Ensures best in class facilities equipment management. Owns sustaining capital, facilities, and maintenance budgets. Deploys resources needed to meet and exceed plant Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) targets. Partners with other functions to maximize operational efficiency and equipment reliability. Leads maintenance efforts to identify and implement process improvement initiatives. Drives Lean/TPM in Maintenance, engaging on Tiered Management System, and with the overall BD Excellence System. Ensures all plant utilities are well maintained and production needs are met within safe limits of capacity utilization. Leads the development of business continuity plans (BCP) as it pertains to the facility and production equipment. Maintains site and equipment compliant with local, state, federal, and BD regulations, policies, and procedures. Track and report on monthly spend for utilities, contractor work, unplanned maintenance and overtime hours from staff.



Supervisory Responsibility:


This position will be responsible for supervising an organization which includes Maintenance Technicians and Engineers. Also work closely with our facilities maintenance partner JLL.



Education and Experience Required:



  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related technical field

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Maintenance and Facilities management at manufacturing locations

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a regulated (e.g. FDA, ISO, FAA, or NRC) environment

  • OSHA education and application

  • Demonstrated leadership and track record of achieving results through the development and execution of strategies and plans

  • Proven negotiation skills with external partners and business contacts

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to multitask and provide results in a timely manner






Education and Experience Preferred:



  • Experience with Lean TPM implementation
