Position Summary:

The Wildlife Rehabilitation Assistant is a permanent full-time position to support the Wildlife Rehabilitation Manager in the day-to-day running of Sharon Audubon Center’s wildlife rehabilitation facility, which admits over 500 orphaned and debilitated birds and other wildlife each year, and caring for Sharon Audubon’s permanent resident birds and other education animals. This position requires prior experience in wildlife rehabilitation and/or animal medical practice.

$18.00 / hour
Essential Functions:

Under the supervision of the Wildlife Rehabilitation Manager


  • Proper admission, examination, triage, and treatment of birds and other wildlife brought to the rehabilitation clinic

  • Responding to phone and email inquiries related to injured, orphaned, or other wildlife and interacting with finders of wildlife.

  • Oversight of animal care volunteers, training new volunteers and interns, and managing volunteer scheduling and communication.

  • Providing training workshops and educational experiences for animal care volunteers

  • Developing/improving Standard Operating Procedures and training protocols for wildlife rehabilitation operations

  • Developing outreach materials and social media content regarding Audubon Sharon’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Program and priority conservation species.

  • Working with the Rehabilitation Manager to manage conservation projects relating to the clinic.

  • Assisting with record keeping and permits, as well as maintaining USDA requirements for resident birds.

  • Assist with training resident birds for use in live animal programs.

  • As needed, covering basic functions of the Sharon Audubon Center such as greeting visitors and gift shop transactions

  • As needed, providing afterhours care to rehab and residents (animal emergencies, winter raptor care procedures.)


  • Assist with Audubon staff to ensure that equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging principles are incorporated and followed in all aspects of our work.

  • Support a culture of philanthropy, including public funding efforts.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Americas including through joint planning and execution of shared priorities.


  • Qualifications and Experience:
  • Undergraduate degree or currently majoring in natural science, veterinary clinic experience or other
    science-related field required.

  • Strong work ethic, enthusiasm, commitment, flexibility, organizational skills, a desire to learn required. Must be a team player.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

  • Prior experience with handling wildlife and/or in animal medicine is required. Prior experience in wildlife rehabilitation specifically is preferred.
