How will you make an impact:


The Director, Manufacturing Engineering will lead engineering efforts across multiple manufacturing sites in the Biosciences Operations network. They will develop an Automation strategy to improve operations and increase capacity. This role works with the BID VP of Operations for a rapidly growing division of Thermo Fisher Scientific. The ideal candidate is a confirmed leader who can drive business success through innovation and influence.


In addition to traditional engineering functions, this leader will drive innovation by exploring new technologies and business processes for a competitive edge.



What will you do:


  • Lead Manufacturing Engineering across all sites in the Bio Sciences division.


  • Build and lead a high-performance team of engaged, hardworking and motivated professionals to support the ongoing growth of the business and build bench-strength within the organization.


  • Relentlessly drive performance and accountability within the manufacturing engineering organization to meet Operations and Business Unit goals on time, on scope and within cost.


  • Enable manufacturing growth strategy ensuring that sites are able to drive our physical and digital automation journey to sustain our business into the future.


  • Responsible for capital management strategy & deployment, associated project management and operational excellence processes & practices.


  • Lead technical voice and key partners supporting industrial footprint strategy, optimization, and rationalization.


  • Supports implementation of product and facility changes, including costing, purchasing, and validation of associated materials, processes, and equipment. This includes operational strategic imperatives, product rationalization, capacity decisions, acquisitions, facility expansions, and automation across multiple sites globally.


  • Discover opportunities and conduct due diligence assessments to improve profitability and supply through the application of the PPI Business System / Lean Manufacturing tools.


  • Work with Quality and Regulatory Assurance to ensure products, raw materials are developed, procured and validated in a manner that follows global regulatory requirements.


  • Devise a strategy and plan to support our goal of Operational Excellence, focusing on improving efficiency, reliability, and quality across our sites.



How will you get here:



Education



Undergraduate degree in Engineering required


MBA or equivalent experience is strongly preferred



Experience:

  • 12+ years proven expertise leading diverse technical teams in Engineering or similar departments within the biotech, life sciences, or highly regulated industry.



Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Proven experience with automation, facilities systems & infrastructure, biotech products' manufacturing, processes and related products.


  • Experience of deploying digital automation to drive operational excellence would be a distinct advantage.


  • Able to align partners in a matrixed environment, establishing relationships and prioritizing customer needs.


  • Motivates teams towards common goals, with excellent presentation and interpersonal skills at all levels, including senior leadership.


  • Business & Strategy Expertise - comprehensive understanding and proficiency in leading diverse operational and business obstacles.


  • Skilled in developing and implementing strategic plans to improve capabilities and performance.


  • Able to clearly articulate vision and provide actionable steps to accomplish objectives.

  • Able to travel up to 40% domestically, Europe and Asia as required arises.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $176,000.00-$264,050.00.


This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
