Job Title:Student Research AssistantDepartment:FAES | Horticulture and Crop Science-JM

The Vegetable Production Systems Laboratory in the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science located on The OSU-Wooster Campus (https://proxy.qualtrics.com/proxy/?url=https://u.osu.edu/vegprolab/&token=lDe1D7S76H0PhqCO2XJnyO8uKdYc//Mx3XEB+RHy03E=) seeks students interested in a one-of-a-kind opportunity combining earning, learning, helping, and fun. We encourage you to join us because there is no other job in this area exactly like it.

You will get paid to develop marketable skills and knowledge in addition to making an impact and connections. You will do this by contributing your talents, skills, and knowledge to hands-on research and extension/outreach addressing real-world challenges and opportunities faced by vegetable growers managing tiny to huge farms across Ohio, the region, and globe. You can expect to become ready for bigger, more exciting, and better-paying challenges and career options in the process. We are serious about what we do but have fun along the way. Contact us soon about our team and what we do; we'll be glad to show you how important and fun this work is and how you can contribute to and gain from it.

What is also important to know about this opportunity and our team and work includes the following:

1. We operate on the premise that all outcomes from crop production hinge on the specific combinations of the plants involved (genetics) and environments they experience. The purpose of our work is to assist in developing and helping people to use improved genetics and management approaches creating environments conducive to success.

2. We study vegetables, and vegetable farming as it is and could be done. We focus on tools and practices expected to improve farmers' success by improving their productivity and efficiency.

3. We work year-round ... outside, in high tunnels and greenhouses, and in laboratories and offices. Our work is hands-on and can accommodate a range of individual team members' physical abilities.

4. We do NOT study pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, or similar materials. We do occasionally study fertilizers and other materials applied to plants and soils.

5. Findings from our research are included in educational resources for growers, extension professionals, and other scientists. Our work is strongly influenced by what growers and many others say is important.

6. We combine critical thinking with thoughtful action to meet our objectives. We are constantly learning -- applying trusted methods but always looking to improve them.

7. We are very experienced at training new team members and able to accommodate their class schedules and other commitments. This position is part-time.
