The Kimmel Belonging and Engagement Hub is seeking an experienced and dynamic Associate Director to lead our comprehensive programming initiatives. This position is responsible for providing effective leadership, establishing short- and long-term goals for the K Hub, and overseeing the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of educational and co-curricular events and support services. The Associate Director will play a critical role in enhancing student connections and increasing retention through innovative campus programming.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy: Provide overall supervision and strategic direction for Campus Programming, Identity-based Programming, and Heritage Month celebrations. Collaborate with the K Hub leadership team on planning and assessment.
Program Development: Develop, plan, and execute a diverse range of campus programs that foster student engagement, belonging, and community, including large-scale events such as Affinity Graduations, Homecoming and Springfest.
Advisory Role: Serve as the primary supervisor & adviser for the Campus Activities Board (CAB), providing guidance, training, and support. Oversee CAB budget management and implementation of programming and campus traditions.
Collaboration: Act as the liaison between the Kimmel Belonging and Engagement Hub, the Morris University Center, and Faculty and Staff Associations for collaborative programming efforts. Initiate and maintain relationships with campus and community stakeholders to enhance campus life.
Marketing & Communication: Develop and implement marketing strategies to maximize student engagement. Compile content and strategy for departmental social media, webpages and marketing materials.
Staff Development: Select, supervise, and evaluate staff, including Coordinators and student employees. Provide training and professional development opportunities while conducting regular performance evaluations.
Policy Compliance: Enforce policies and procedures to ensure compliance and minimize risk. Serve as fiscal officer for departmental and fee accounts, ensuring alignment with institutional fiscal policies.
Student Support: Provide recommendations and referrals for students regarding educational, financial, personal, and career concerns. Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to improve and enhance campus life.
Work Schedule: M-F, 8-4:30, nights and weekends
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in related field (higher education, social work, psychology, etc.)
A total of three years (36 months) experience in work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position. (Note: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)
Experience required in areas regarding Programming and Marketing
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in related field (Higher Education Administration/College Student Personnel, Public Administration, Business Administration, Psychology, Speech Communication, Marketing/Public Relations or a closely related field)
Prior experience with operational, budget management, and staff supervision
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Ability to understand conceptual ideas and translate in practical programs
Applicant must possess excellent coordination, collaboration and superior communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff in a university community
Position functions with limited supervision requiring management decisions based on university policies and procedure
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds and create a campus atmosphere that embraces openness and acceptance
The position is guided by collaboration, coordination, cooperation, communication, and collegiality.
Illinois Residency Requirement: Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position. Illinois residency requires proof of a valid Illinois Driver’s License or state of Illinois ID Card. Failure to produce the required documentation within 180 calendar days will result in immediate termination of employment.
