· Bachelor's degree (preferably in history or English).
· Bilingual in Spanish · Experience in Academic Library, archive, or museum setting.

Primary Responsibilities:


Function: Library Assistant for Archives based in Alpine, Texas.



Scope: This Library Assistant contributes to SRSU Library and Archives functions in areas of clerical service, customer service, processing of physical collections, cataloging physical collections, and other areas related to the Archives of the Big Bend in service of all SRSU campuses and researchers.



Duties Essential:Duties Essential: (60%) Participates in general maintenance and cataloging of physical collections, engaging with archivist(s), librarians, and library staff when necessary.
o Performs processing, box-listing, rehousing, and shelving new and legacy materials
o Responsible for routing physical materials through their lifecycle using Integrated Library System
(lLS) modules in Cataloging.
o Conducts collection inventories and records necessary metadata.
o Files and tracks missing material reports
o Generates monthly usage reports.
o Collect and monitor environmental data, including temperature, humidity, lighting, and pest
reports, and report changes to Head of Archives.
o Assists Archivist with hiring, training, and evaluating part-time Student Assistant in Archives
o Assists Archives staff with Finding Aid creation and updates.


(30%) Oversees procedures associated with making physical and electronic resource content available to library users.
o Trained to assist reading room users with handling procedures.
o Trained to assist researchers, students, faculty, and staff in use of Library and Archives software and hardware, referring to relevant Archivist or Librarian when necessary.

(5%) Serves on University Committees, Staff Council, and other campus or professional groups in areas relevant to the position.


(5%) Performs other reasonable duties as required by the supervisor. Occasional evening and weekend duties may be required.


Office conditions:Service oriented environment in direct and continual contact with the public. Position is security sensitive. Records may contain sensitive content or images. Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times. Daily conditions include consistent use of a keyboard and monitors, manual dexterity with delicate materials, lowering, lifting, and moving boxes up to 40 lbs., exposure to dust, mold, sharp edges, and fluorescent lighting.


Other Information:

Texas Law requires a 60 day waiting period before new state employees are eligible to enroll in health insurance.

The report contains information regarding campus safety and security including topics such as: campus law enforcement authority; crime reporting policies; campus alerts (Timely Warnings and Emergency Notifications); fire safety policies and procedures; programs to prevent dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking; the procedures the University will follow when one of these crimes is reported; and other matters of importance related to security on campus. The report also contains information about crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in On-Campus Student Housing Facilities; in Non-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University or a recognized student organization; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. Sul Ross State University Alpine Campus is in the Scenic Davis Mountains of West Texas, is a member of the Texas State University System, is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate, Bachelor's, and Master's degrees, and has an enrollment of approximately 2,000 students of campus in Alpine, Texas. At an elevation of 4,480 feet, and on the periphery of the Chihuahuan Desert, Alpine enjoys mild winters and cool summers. All RGC students hold an Associate degree from an accredited institution or they have completed 42 semester credit hours of transferable work.
