Job Summary :



Avangrid Renewables is seeking a Senior Contracts Manager to report to the Contracts Director, develop contracting strategies and plans, and manage the tendering, negotiation, and execution of a wide range of offshore wind execution and development contracts for the New England Wind project. The individual will assist in the management of contractual and commercial risks and seek out opportunities to optimize and drive the performance of various supplier contracts. The role requires an ability to develop unique contracts and work in a fast-paced working environment that can adapt to the dynamic needs of the US Offshore Wind Execution and Development Team.


This role will include working closely with the US Offshore Wind Execution and Development Team and staff from the Legal, Financial, Procurement and Insurance teams to ensure contracts are developed and managed effectively.


The successful candidate will support a variety of activities within offshore wind execution and development package, including environmental surveys, vessel chartering research, telecommunication, permitting, community outreach, stakeholder engagement, and engineering support.


The position is based in Boston, Massachusetts.



Job Duties :



  • Manage the tendering and negotiation of offshore wind execution and development contracts for the New England Wind project with the US Offshore Wind Execution and Development Team and Procurement team, as appropriate;

  • Attendance, leading, and providing contractual support in meetings with the US Offshore Wind Execution and Development Team, meetings with members of the Legal, Financial, Procurement and Insurance teams, and meetings with Contractors to ensure all parties are aware and informed about contract content and documentation.

  • Prepare contracts with internal stakeholders using contracting strategies that appropriately address risk and manage expectations of service, including work products, timing, and tracking deliverables which will include major milestone dates and KPIs, as applicable.

  • Ensure relevant guidelines, processes and procedures are included in final contracts so that Contractors adhere to them after execution.

  • Process variations following project procedures, purchasing procedures, and contract terms.

  • Coordination of procurement and tender activities and training/educating project teams on key risk areas.

  • Facilitate delivery of the project's interests in preparing for negotiations with Contractors.

  • Undertake detailed contract reviews and analysis allowing wider team to better interpret and apply key contract provisions on the day-to-day operational clauses of the contract.

  • Make commercial recommendations and provide advice on key commercial risks to internal stakeholders.

  • Track effective and expiration dates for all contracts to prevent any delay in services.

  • Manage reassignment of contracts between affiliate entities, as needed.

  • Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external Contractors, partners, and research organizations.


Skills, Knowledge & Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree with total 10 years in relevant discipline - Contract

  • IT literate, with the ability to operate Microsoft Office systems and other IT-based project management software. (knowledge and previous experience of SAP is advantageous)

  • Extensive commercial, contractual, technical, and practical knowledge of energy industry standards.

  • Experience managing, multiple small or medium-sized

  • suppliers preferably within the energy industry.

  • Experience with Requests for Proposals and tender processes for contracts.

  • Experience tracking contract information for implementation.

  • Extensive experience in the management of multidisciplinary contracting strategies.

  • Proven track record delivering complex contracts preferably within the energy industry.

  • Proactive and diligent approach with a high degree of self-motivation and flexibility in the event of unforeseen needs.

  • Excellent project management and leadership skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on results.

  • Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines

  • Able to adapt and work in a fast-paced working environment and responsive to change.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and sustainability reporting tools and databases.

Minimum Criteria:



  • Strong understanding of contract content and contracting processes including issuing Requests for Proposals, managing tenders, evaluating suppliers, negotiating contracts, and driving forward contract execution. (Essential)



  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced working environment and be responsive to change. (Essential)



  • Ability to manage different tenders and suppliers (when the Project would be in an execution phase) at the same time (Essential)

  • Excellent project management, organization and leadership skills.



  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience with contracting in energy industry and knowledge of energy industry standards. Knowledge of the offshore wind industry and / or maritime law would be a plus but not necessary.
