JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Head of Project Scheduling role acts as the scheduling and planning subject matter expert in the projects organization. He or she will provide program/project planning and scheduling services during the development and execution phases of projects and programs, as well as guide the other schedulers in the organization in optimal use of scheduling tools and processes.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Define and document key scheduling processes such as schedule methodologies and guidelines and implementation in Primavera P6
  • During the early phases of the project/program, supports the Project Management team in developing the execution plan for the scope of work
  • Is instrumental in defining and scheduling key contractual milestones for inclusion into contract documents
  • Verifies the ability to execute the contractual scope of work by analyzing resources (human and quantity) requirements and ensures equipment, materials, and engineering services are capable of meeting the contractual schedule
  • Supports the development of the work breakdown structure as required by the contract
  • During the execution phase of the work, prepares and maintains several levels of increasing detail, time-phased Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules
  • Resolves logic and schedule related conflicts through close interaction with participating functions/owners
  • Obtains commitments to the plan from all associated stakeholders
  • Provides status updates to schedules, verifies accuracy of work completed and analyzes progress, schedule performance and variances from the plan
  • Obtains and/or recommends corrective actions for mitigating deviations from the plan
  • Works closely with the entire Project Management Team, especially the Cost Control group to identify and resolve schedule deviations and trends
  • Prepares and maintains schedule metrics
  • Prepares the schedule analysis for inclusion into the monthly project progress report

Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:

  • Requires strong planning, organizational, oral and written communication, and analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Must also have strong personal computer skills and ability to read, interpret and understand technical drawings and documents
  • A solid understanding of planning and scheduling concepts with hands on experience in the use of CPM scheduling software, in particular Primavera P6
  • Candidate must be a high energy individual with some prior planning and scheduling experience in an engineering manufacturing environment
  • Additional prior related experience in other project controls/management areas (cost engineering, logistics, contracts, etc.) is a plus

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 5 years scheduling experience
  • Minimum of 3 years Primavera P6 experience

Desired:

  • Self-starter with high initiative
  • Prior experience in engineering, procurement, and/or manufacturing preferred
  • Additional prior related experience in another project management discipline (cost, planning, estimating) is desired
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
