Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The ASOD Department of Orthodontics is an internationally recognized group of oral health professionals that support a dental education program, an orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics advanced dental education program and a master's degree program; as well as community service and outreach, faculty practice and scholarship activities, directed at diagnosis and treatment of patients with malocclusions and diverse craniofacial or oral and maxillofacial conditions.


Position Summary:

The ideal candidate is an outstanding leader that will direct a high-performing and passionate department in our education, patient care, community service and research missions. The successful candidate will be eligible to participate in the intramural orthodontics Dental Faculty Practice. Other requirements include excellent communication skills; strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills; possess skills in teaching and mentoring students and faculty; a strong history of clinical excellence; a strong history and continued interest in research and productive scholarship and a minimum of five years of leadership and/or administrative supervisory experience. In addition to a primary faculty appointment in the Orthodontics Department in either a full-time fixed-term track or tenure/tenure track position, the selected candidate will hold a secondary, at will administrative assignment as Department Chair reporting to the Dean. Faculty rank and track will be determined once the top candidate is identified.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

DDS, DMD, or equivalent dental degree and at least five years of leadership and/or administrative supervisory experience in academic orthodontics. American Board of Orthodontics certification or equivalent is also required. Eligibility for dental licensure in NC or NC Instructor's License, and evidence of scholarship to qualify for an appointment at the associate or full professor level is required. Faculty rank and salary will be commensurate with education, experience and academic accomplishments.


Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Experience with CODA accreditation is preferred.


Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:


This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
