Position Title:

Registered Nurse-10 month


Position Summary:

The Registered Nurse provides important medical information to students who have questions about a specific illness, injury or condition, which may need immediate evaluation. The Registered Nurse triages the student's medical chief complaint and advises the student of the availability of appointments. Standard nursing procedures and assistance to medical providers are tasks performed by the Registered Nurse. This position supports the Study Abroad students with health information about the traveled country and completion of Study Abroad medical requirements.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities :



  • Assist Director in assuring that all incoming students have met the medical and immunization requirements for admission to the college;

  • Provide episodic care to acutely ill, patients which include minor emergencies;

  • Initiate breathing treatment for asthmatic patients after assessment of peak flows as ordered by the provider;

  • Assist medical providers with special procedures as indicated, including treatments and administration of medications;

  • Administer medications including by mouth, subcutaneous, intra-muscular and intravenous upon order of medical provider;

  • Obtain consent for immunizations and administer and document all immunizations appropriately;

  • Respond appropriately to and in emergency situations;

  • Administer emergency medications i.e., oxygen, epinephrine, etc. as ordered by medical providers;

  • Provide medical information to students with questions about general medical and gynecological issues, and refer and schedule student to appropriate provider for evaluation of specific problem;

  • Provide HIV post test counseling for patients who have had in clinic OraSure HIV test referring any student with positive results to appropriate medical facility for initiation of treatment and to Counseling Services for emotional support;

  • Perform patient counseling and teaching;

  • Provide appropriate discharge teaching for all patients;

  • Use the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation in triaging and documenting all medical complaints;

  • Refer patients appropriately to Nurse Practitioner, Medical Consultant and/or medical facility for further evaluation and follow-up;

  • Administer immunizations to students selected for study abroad programs according to CDC guidelines and provide medical information specific to any outbreaks which may be occurring in country of student will travel;

  • Maintain inventory and reorder supplies of required immunizations for study abroad program, and all incoming students;

  • Assist in maintaining inventory of all medications including those administered by mouth, topical, intramuscular, subcutaneous and Intravenous medications;

  • Maintain all medical and clinical skills specific to job duties of primary care and women's health care clinics.

  • Assist medical assistants to make sure clinics are stocked with the necessary medical supplies.

  • Administer both rapid and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) COVID test to students in accordance with the health and safety protocols of the College.

  • Assist the medical provider to help care for students who have been placed in isolation and quarantine rooms. Wellness checks should be done daily to check the status of students in isolation and quarantine.





Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years directly related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. College health services experience is a plus.This position requires strong customer service focus. The incumbent may be required to work independently during certain hours, and at other times will function as part of the medical team. Demonstrated ability to interact with a diverse population is required. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Able to work under pressure and adapt to changing situations.Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or medical regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals is essential. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, other employees, and the general public is required. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.To perform this job successfully, an individual must have beginner level skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). The incumbent will use software to produce reports, business correspondence, e-mails, procedure manuals, and maintain inventories. Use of Lotus Notes is essential.

Valid Georgia RN License preferred.


Valid CPR certification required.


First-aid and universal precautions education required.


Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, use hands to handle medical supplies and assist patients, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to: stoop or climb. The employee is occasionally required to: smell, and lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
