General Description:

This position is responsible for receiving, evaluating, and verifying student data to award federal, state, and institutional financial aid; for determining student eligibility in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and procedures; for searching the national database to confirm institutions attended and financial aid provided; for advising students on matters of financial aid eligibility and appeals; for providing necessary information regarding student financial assistance programs; for using professional judgment in considering individual student requests for special consideration, satisfactory academic progress, dependency overrides, and debt management issues; and for the administration of a specific financial aid program or set of services such as outreach programs, Oklahoma's Promise Scholarship Program, or Oklahoma Tuition Aid Grant Program and other programs which warrant a specific assignment.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
The work is sedentary work which requires the person in this position to occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:


This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to students, administration, faculty, staff, and others to perform the essential functions of the position; must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.


This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer and other office equipment to perform the essential functions of the position.This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that involves repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.


This position requires the person to judge, observe, and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.


Work is performed in an indoor, office setting.


Work is performed during office hours with some evenings and weekends required.


Preferred Qualifications:

Two (2) years of work experience in a student service or financial aid office.


Required Training:

Quarterly compliance training as assigned by institution


Work Hours:

40 hours a week. Some evening and weekend hours required.


Office is open on Mondays from 8am-8pm, Tuesday through Thursday from 8am-6pm, and Fridays from 8am-5pm.

Job Duties (Position Specific):

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement):

Works with students to help ensure that their FAFSA applications are filled out properly.


Receives, evaluates, and verifies student data for determining the student's financial aid eligibility in a timely, accurate manner.


Interviews and advises current and prospective students who are seeking information about financial assistance.


Determines eligibility of applicants for federal, state, and College student aid programs administered by Student Financial Support Services; identifies all financial resources available; reviews lists of students for possible awards; and awards financial aid in compliance with policies and procedures.


Maintains accurate and complete records on each student assigned to an advisor's caseload; ensures students are enrolled in degree programs and are taking degree courses.


Complies with federal, state and College policies and procedures; keeps current on changing regulations applicable to each program.


Reviews students' academic progress appeals; collects data about students' academic performance; evaluates and makes decisions pertaining to continued eligibility and academic suspension appeals; notifies students; and updates student's records.


Assists students, as needed, to resolve rejected federal applications for student financial assistance; reviews, as needed, student requests for special consideration; considers adjustments to student application data to reflect a change in circumstances; uses professional judgment standards to make a decision, notify student, and adjust record for reprocessing through the Federal Central Processing System as required; and sends revised award notification letter.


Serves at the Financial Aid Office front counter on a daily basis as scheduled; reviews, as needed, student requests for dependency overrides; collects and reviews supporting documentation from student; takes in and scans documents into folders and database; uses professional judgment standards; and documents decisions for student records.


Performs work in a confidential and professional manner.


Receives phone calls; responds to emails/phone calls in a timely manner; and sees prospective and current students by appointment to provide direct service in providing quality student services.


Provides office coverage and assists other areas as needed or scheduled.

Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC's established safety and health procedures and practices.


Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation, shelter in place drills, and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
