Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Head Women's Basketball Coach, the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach will assist in the administration and leadership of the Johnson C. Smith University's DII Women's Basketball program. Responsibilities includes but are not limited to: providing coaching and instruction, women's basketball operations, recruiting, player development, scouting, preparation of practice activities and other duties as assigned by the Head Women's Basketball Coach.


Develops and implements programs to ensure the academic success of the women's basketball team; assists with a variety of programs in support of student athlete academic success, retention, and progress toward degree completion.


Manages and coordinates team activities, team bonding community service and sponsorships.

Maintains current knowledge of NCAA, CIAA, and Johnson C. Smith University rules and regulations.

Assists with game day preparation and practice schedules, assist with weekly scouting reports organizes game day locker room, attire, and appearance.

Assists with out of season planning, workouts, and player development.

Manages travel and lodging logistics for official visits, student-athlete host and off campus recruiting and team travel.

Serves in on-call rotation for on campus and off campus room and curfew checks.

Identifies and discuss behavioral issues impacting individual players and/or on the team with the head coach; addresses issues with student athletes as necessary.

Manages practice players and team managers.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; collegiate coaching and/or playing experience is required. The successful candidates must possess strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; the ability to recruit prospective student athletes; proficiency and thorough knowledge of the game of basketball; a commitment to excellence, sensitivity to cultural differences and a commitment to the mission and values of Johnson C. Smith University and the Department of Athletics. The position requires significant travel. Proficiency with computer applications, general office software and knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations required. CPR Certification is required within 30 days of hire.
