Position Summary:

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC-Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. The Assistant Director, Prospect Management is a member of University Development's prospect development department and applies advanced analytical and critical thinking skills to strategic business opportunities associated with the university's fundraising enterprise. The department's twin goals are to provide timely, high-quality insights and knowledge to support a variety of fundraising strategies and to facilitate the movement of prospects through the pipeline. Its core competencies are working with information, building relationships, and delivering effective solutions. To advance the priorities of the university-wide development community - known as OneCarolina - the Assistant Director serves as team lead to manage programmatic area(s) and provides strategic services to fundraisers, which may include one or more key elements of prospect management: officer goal-setting and productivity; portfolio reviews; portfolio strategy, optimization, and consultation; tool consulting; resourcing officers; and managing prospect pipeline, leads, and pools.


Specific duties may include:
1) Serve as team lead to manage programmatic area(s) within the Prospect Management office - e.g. introduce and execute a new process for high-value prospect pool tracking, assignment / distribution, and movement / management.
2) Serve as subject matter expert and mentor.
3) Participate in annual officer goal-setting process and productivity.
4) Participate in delivering four critical client-facing portfolio management services: training, analysis, strategy (i.e. portfolio reviews), and client service.
5) Provide consulting for maximizing use / value of prospecting and portfolio tools.
6) Develop and maintain effective relationships with fundraisers and collaborators across OneCarolina.
7) Leverage business intelligence and analytics capabilities to benefit the university development community.
8) Maintain and ensure the integrity of the data within the database.
9) Develop and maintain knowledge of applicable information technology and how data are structured within the development database.
10) Identify business needs and develop appropriate products and strategies to drive business outcomes.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum of a bachelor's degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience. For positions with responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising experience is required.


Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Demonstrated experience with - or aptitude for - delivering client-facing services, building effective relationships with internal clients and collaborators, leveraging business intelligence and analytics capabilities, and, at some future point, supervising staff.


Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Experience in a complex fundraising organization situated within the higher education or academic medicine sector. Familiarity with UNC-Chapel Hill. Familiarity with Blackbaud CRM. Knowledge of prospect development principles, practices, and tools of the trade. Experience with research, database, spreadsheet, query, statistical, data management, visualization, and survey tools. Curious and creative. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with various constituencies. Ability to collaborate with colleagues. Client service, problem-solving, and project management skills. Strategic and analytical thinker. Organized, with attention to detail. Ability to meet deadlines, be self-motivated, work independently, show flexibility, and adapt to shifting priorities.
