Reporting to the Associate Director for Research Services in the Biddle Law Library, the Research Services Fellow will provide in-depth legal and interdisciplinary research for Penn Carey Law faculty. The Fellow may also provide reference and research services to scholars, students, staff and other researchers. This position is ideal for a recent law school graduate or current graduate student in information science to build expertise in legal research.
This position is fully remote and will last for a period of no more than 9 months from the start date of the chosen candidate.




Job Description





Research Services for Penn Carey Law faculty



  • Working in conjunction with the Associate Director for Research Services and Biddle Reference librarians, serves as a research specialist to deliver high-quality legal and interdisciplinary research and analysis for Penn Carey Law faculty. Typical work product includes research memoranda, literature reviews, and current awareness materials.




Research Services for Penn Carey Law administrators and departments



  • Conduct legal, interdisciplinary, and competitive intelligence research for law school administrators and departments.

  • Create CLE bibliographies for law school events.




Reference and Research Services to scholars, students, and other researchers



  • Provides virtual reference and research services via email and chat to students, members of the Penn community, scholars, and other researchers.

  • Create and update electronic research guides and tutorials.




Other Duties as Assigned




Qualifications:




Required:



  • JD from an ABA-Accredited law school.

  • Experience as a research assistant for law faculty or other work producing significant research for law faculty

  • Familiarity with legal materials and citation formats

  • A strong service orientation and attention to detail

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently




Preferred:



  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited school of library or information science (earned or in progress)

  • Some experience performing legal research in an academic, law firm, or court setting

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with decision-makers

  • Ability to work with initiative and flexibility to respond effectively to changing information needs
