Job Description Summary
The Palliative and Advanced Illness Research Center is seeking a full-time clinical research coordinator (CRC) who will be responsible for multiple prospective cohort studies measuring long-term health trajectories of patients recently hospitalized with acute respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19. The mission of the PAIR Center is to generate high-quality evidence to advance healthcare policies and practices that improve the lives of all people affected by serious illness and remove barriers to health equity that seriously ill patients commonly face.
Under the guidance of the study Principal Investigators, the CRC will support recruitment and enrollment for 1) a multicenter, longitudinal study that seeks to measure associations between the immune profiles and health outcomes of COVID-19 survivors; and 2) a federally funded, longitudinal cohort study evaluating the long-term health outcomes and complications among patients who survive hospitalization in an intensive care unit with acute respiratory failure (ARF).
Specific duties will include implementing protocols for screening, recruitment, and enrollment of over 250 patients following discharge from hospitals across the University of Pennsylvania Health System, conducting interviews and administering surveys (in-person and by telephone) over longitudinal time points, and working closely with fellow CRCs to maintain long-term contact and promote retention of patients in the study cohorts.
The CRC will also be responsible for various day-to-day study operations including maintaining study databases, coordination of study payments to participants, submission of IRB and other regulatory documentation, collaborative analysis of interview and survey data, and preparing materials for results dissemination and grant applications.
Prior experience with longitudinal cohort studies and/or qualitative research methods is preferred. Strong computer skills are essential. Candidate must be comfortable working with seriously ill patients and handling sensitive health information. Candidate must be detail-oriented with excellent communication and interpersonal skills; highly organized; attentive to detail; ability to multi-task; and flexibility to shift focus between projects. Experience in health care is preferred, but not required.
