Job Description: McCarthy Building Companies, Inc.
McCarthy is seeking a highly skilled VDC HVAC Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) efforts for HVAC systems in large-scale commercial and industrial projects. You will collaborate closely with engineering teams, project managers, and contractors to ensure precise 3D modeling, coordination, and successful integration of HVAC systems into overall building designs. The ideal candidate is well-versed in BIM (Building Information Modeling) software and has in-depth experience with HVAC system design, coordination, and project execution. Key Responsibilities:
Lead HVAC VDC Processes: Manage and oversee the development of 3D HVAC models, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project standards.
Project Coordination: Coordinate with architectural, structural, electrical, and plumbing disciplines to ensure optimal integration of HVAC systems using BIM platforms.
Technical Oversight: Provide technical guidance and support for the HVAC design team and junior VDC engineers, ensuring all VDC processes meet industry standards and project specifications.
Quality Control: Review HVAC design models to ensure compliance with project requirements and standards, as well as troubleshoot and resolve design and coordination conflicts.
Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with design engineers, contractors, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination of HVAC systems.
Software Utilization: Utilize and maintain proficiency in BIM software (e.g., Revit, Navisworks, Revizto, CAMduct, Stratus) for the design, modeling, and coordination of HVAC systems.
Clash Detection: Conduct clash detection analysis and resolve issues before construction, ensuring that HVAC systems do not conflict with other building systems.
Documentation & Reporting: Generate detailed reports, construction documents, and design layouts for HVAC systems, including as-built models for post-construction purposes.
Process Improvement: Develop and implement VDC standards, workflows, and best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy in HVAC design and coordination.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or a related field.
5-7+ years of experience in HVAC design and engineering.
3-5 years of experience in VDC/BIM coordination in a construction or engineering environment.
Proficiency in BIM software (Revit, AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks, etc.).
Strong understanding of HVAC systems design and integration.
Familiarity with clash detection and coordination processes.
Knowledge of industry standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA) and relevant codes.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail
Ability to lead and mentor a team of VDC engineers.
Certifications (Preferred):
LEED accreditation, BIM/VDC certifications, or HVAC design-related certifications.
Ability to work in an office environment
