JOB SUMMARY

THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON CONTRACT AWARD.

AS A SENIOR ENGINEER (SOFTWARE FOCUS), YOU WILL LEAD THE DEVELOPMENT, INTEGRATION, AND OPTIMIZATION OF CUTTING-EDGE SOFTWARE SYSTEMS WITHIN AEROSPACE AND INNOVATION-FOCUSED PROGRAMS FOR U.S. GOVERNMENT AGENCIES. YOU WILL BE AT THE FOREFRONT OF DESIGNING, DEVELOPING, AND MANAGING SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS THAT DRIVE TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS IN AEROSPACE ENGINEERING, INCLUDING AUTOMATION, ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI), AND OTHER EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES.

THIS ROLE IS A KEY PART OF THE INNOVATION TEAM, AND YOU WILL COLLABORATE WITH CROSS-FUNCTIONAL GROUPS TO INTEGRATE ADVANCED SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS INTO AEROSPACE SYSTEMS, ENSURING MISSION SUCCESS AND ENHANCING CAPABILITIES WITHIN FEDERAL PROGRAMS.


ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Software Engineering & Development: Lead the design, development, testing, and deployment of innovative software solutions tailored to aerospace applications, ensuring systems are scalable, reliable, and aligned with government objectives.
  • System Integration: Work closely with hardware and systems engineers to integrate software solutions into aerospace systems, including avionics, navigation, and communication systems. Ensure seamless integration with other components, optimizing system performance and safety.
  • Emerging Technology Innovation: Develop and implement software strategies that incorporate emerging technologies such as AI, machine learning, and autonomous systems to drive innovation within aerospace projects. Identify opportunities for process automation, performance optimization, and enhanced functionality.
  • Software Architecture & Design: Provide technical leadership in the architectural design of aerospace software systems, ensuring they meet mission requirements, scalability, and performance standards. Evaluate current systems and recommend enhancements using state-of-the-art methodologies.
  • Research & Development (R&D): Conduct research into new and emerging technologies, assessing their applicability to aerospace innovation programs. Drive the development of prototypes and proof-of-concept models for novel software systems that push the boundaries of current technology.
  • Project Management & Leadership: Manage and oversee multiple complex software engineering projects from concept to deployment. Ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget, while meeting quality standards and government specifications.
  • Collaborative Innovation: Work with multidisciplinary teams including systems engineers, mechanical engineers, and data scientists to ensure cohesive development and integration of software systems across various aerospace platforms. Act as a key interface between software and hardware engineering teams.
  • Risk Management & Testing: Develop and execute software testing protocols to ensure system integrity, reliability, and security. Identify potential risks and implement mitigation strategies during the software development lifecycle.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Produce detailed technical documentation, including software design specifications, testing protocols, and system integration plans. Ensure that all development efforts are in compliance with government regulations, cybersecurity standards, and mission-critical safety protocols.

Requirements:

SKILLS AND COMPENTENCIES

  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as C++, Python, Java, and embedded systems development.
  • Expertise in software development tools and methodologies (e.g., Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, version control, etc.).
  • Experience with software architectures, system engineering principles, and development environments related to aerospace and defense.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate complex requirements into actionable software solutions.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity requirements and protocols for aerospace software systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and with government stakeholders.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with government aerospace innovation programs (e.g., AFWERX, ARCWERX, or AFRL).
  • Certifications such as Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP), Project Management Professional (PMP), or other relevant credentials.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on aerospace, defense, or related government projects.
  • Proven experience leading the development of complex software systems, including embedded systems, control systems, or flight software.
  • Experience in system integration, particularly in aerospace or defense programs, including familiarity with software-hardware interfaces.
  • DEMONSTRATED SUCCESS IN MANAGING LARGE-SCALE, CROSS-FUNCTIONAL PROJECTS WITHIN GOVERNMENT CONTRACTING ENVIRONMENTS.

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a minimum of an active U.S. SECRET clearance and be subject to a government security investigation.
  • Driving or renting a car for company business is expected with some frequency. For insurance purposes, a valid driver's license is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

TRAVEL REQUIRED

  • Position may travel up to 50% of the time out of state and overnight to fulfill contract requirements.
