Job Summary:

As part of the Wealth Client Group's Distribution Enablement team, the Data Analytics role will serve as primary data engineer for the group helping define, build, and implement analytic solutions to align with business strategy. Expect high levels of collaboration and partnership with data scientists, data analysts, business unit specialists and IT across the Enterprise to enhance the existing data platform and build future state best-in-class data architecture to meet business demands. The role will work across business units in a team environment with minimal supervision.

Major Duties:


  • Full life cycle activities of data analytics to include requirements and design, data cleaning, developing analysis and reporting capabilities, linking databases and data sets, and building out reporting visualizations (using Power BI)

  • Work with the business leaders and stakeholders to understand their strategies, how they align with the corporate strategies and determine ways to use analytics to help them in decision making

  • Work across business units, to define and develop analytic capabilities that can be leveraged to solve cross business unit challenges

  • Analyze and understand Northern Trust's core business processes and data flows to design and develop enduring solutions that provide analytical insights ( both rearview, and predictive )

  • Assist with applying and developing statistical models/methods to address business issues

  • Develop metrics and create ad-hoc reporting as needed

  • Ensure issues are identified, tracked, reported on and resolved in a timely manner

  • Foster a positive and collaborative environment

  • Participate in special projects as needed and perform other duties, as assigned

Knowledge/Skills:

Technical Experience:


  • Highly proficient with MS SQL Server ( adept in stored procedures, views, TVFs, schemas, star models )

  • Highly proficient as an architect of data analytical tools and visualization software ( e.g. PowerBI, DAX, SSRS, Tableau, Plotly )

  • Experience in Azure ( Databricks, DevOps) and Power Platform

  • Strong working knowledge of Python and Python libraries ( e.g. Pandas, NumPy, Dash ) or similar object-oriented programming language (C#)

  • Azure DevOps and/or JIRA experience preferred

  • Advanced skills in Access and Excel ( VBA classes and modules )


General:

  • Database systems competence is expected. Familiarity with relational database concepts, querying, data warehouses, and/or decision support tools

  • Strong data and analytical skills with ability to manipulate large amounts of data for analytical projects and translate that data into sound insights

  • Proficiency in navigating computer systems; ability to learn new data systems quickly and to comply with data integrity and security to safeguard all personal identifiable information

  • Familiarity working under various project management methodologies, including of Agile, Waterfall, Six Sigma, and CRISP-DM

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required with ability to be efficient and consistently deliver high-quality work under time constraints


  • Highly motivated and organized with the ability to work well in teams (both interchangeably in leading and supportive roles) and independently on multiple simultaneous projects

  • Highly flexible and adaptable to change

Education Required:

Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Statistics, Finance or a related field and/or equivalent work experience required.
