Position Overview: This position is responsible for being a part of a team that provides technical support for the entire organization and promotes the improvement of safety performance on the job. This includes but is not limited to the coordination and completion of safety projects, conducting behavioral safety observations, facility safety inspections, developing and presenting safety training, lead and coordinate site emergency response efforts, and complete miscellaneous assignments as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Develop, implement, and evaluate programs and policies to assure personnel and facility safety
Monitor and control the organization's safety and health standards in accordance with regulatory standards
Maintain professional knowledge of existing and proposed changes in Federal EHS regulations
Support the organization in maintaining programs and record keeping systems to track and evaluate personnel injury and illness experience
Conduct and audit, accident investigations and site inspections of operational procedures, facility design, equipment and materials
Develop processes to measure trends and track improvements in data and develop quality solutions
Develop and conduct employee EHS training, emergency preparedness and quality assurance programs
Participate in EHS project reviews for evaluation and approving material and equipment requisition, new and modified processes, and non-routine work
Support strategic planning for monitoring and preventing chemical, biological, physical hazards and diseases
Promote communication programs to enhance and encourage employee awareness of accident and fire prevention, industrial hygiene and health compliance
May act as lead person or technical expert on medium to large projects
Develop relationships with other companies and associations in the area of safety and health to share best practices, leverage learning/resources and benchmark
Skills and Qualifications:
Working knowledge of federal, state and local regulations dealing with EPA regulations, OSHA general industry standards, air and water quality, hazardous waste, emergency response and mitigation, storm water, leak detection and repair, spill prevention controls and countermeasures, risk management and facility response plan
Must be detail-oriented, have strong MS Office experience and proficient with developing and using spreadsheets and/or databases
Must be able to multi-task and take ownership of assigned projects
Must be able to lead by example and have good communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as exceptional record keeping
Excellent organizational skills and ability to work well within strict time frames, despite numerous interruptions
Ability to work without supervision and make appropriate decisions
Ability to travel 75% of the time
Proven ability to lead change, coach and influence safety culture
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and competing priorities, ensuring that plans, guidance and advice is accurate, timely and effective
Ability to create, manage and implement Health and Safety programs/projects
Ability to manage all activities associated with emergency response activities
Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, and mitigate safety and environmental risks
Education and Experience:
Occupational Safety and Health or related degree preferred; or a combination of education and/or experience
5 years of experience in the Safety and Risk Management field with agricultural industry experience a huge plus
Experience in agribusiness operations
Completion of the OSHA 30 hour General Industry course
Experience with Process Safety Management and Risk Management Plans (EPA)
Statistical analysis skills/experience
Working knowledge of safety regulations (ANSI, DOT, OSHA, NFPA)
