Associate - Infrastructure Specialist




What can you expect?



  • The Real Assets Team provides clients with investment services across the full spectrum of private real assets investments, including real estate, infrastructure, and opportunistic real assets on both a discretionary and non-discretionary basis.

  • The global 40+ person team is responsible for evaluating real assets markets, identifying and evaluating investment opportunities, and managing client portfolios.

  • We advise our clients on making debt and equity investments into real assets via private investment vehicles (primary fund investments), co-investments, and secondaries. We also support the firm on broader research and developing firm-wide views on the sector.

  • The Associate - Infrastructure Specialist is an integral position within the infrastructure team in North America, covering a broad array of infrastructure investment strategies such as digital, energy transition, transportation, and other related sectors.

  • In this position you will have the opportunity to work as part of a global team with a presence in North America, Europe, and Australia, serving Mercer's large discretionary and advisory institutional client base.

We will count on you to:



  • Perform investment due diligence on primary funds and co-investments in infrastructure, initially providing project support and then taking on more senior roles related to project delivery

  • Prepare screening memos and detailed investment recommendations

  • Support the investment decision-making and portfolio construction processes on behalf of client programs

  • Monitor portfolio investments through regular calls and meetings with fund managers

  • Develop and maintain relationships with fund managers and intermediaries to ensure a systematic coverage of relevant investment opportunities, with a focus on North America

  • Support intellectual capital development through the preparation of regular market update documents

  • Support the infrastructure team globally on projects in other geographies (as needed)

  • Assist with ad-hoc requests from clients and consultants

  • Act as an ambassador for the Mercer Alternatives team when participating in industry events




What you need to have:



  • Post-secondary degree (e.g., BA/BS degree in finance, economics, or other business-related areas);

  • 3-5 years of experience working in asset management, consulting / fiduciary management, corporate finance or a related field

  • Strong analytical skills, critical thinking, and attention to detail

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and an ability to interact with and present confidently to colleagues, investment managers, and clients

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and other MS office applications

  • Self-motivated team player that is willing to learn, support different projects and work collaboratively

  • Ability to function in both team-based and independent activities with moderate oversight; strong sense of ownership to ensure high-quality client deliverables are completed within set timelines




What makes you stand out?



  • Professional qualifications (e.g., CFA, CAIA, CPA) or a willingness to acquire is desirable

  • Prior experience in infrastructure / real assets or private markets in some capacity is desirable

The applicable base salary range for this role is $86,400 to $172,800.


The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
