Job Summary

To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add a Process Engineer - Spring Coiling,  located in Libertyville, IL.

Reporting to the Process Engineering Manager, the Process Engineer – Spring Coiling plans, directs, and coordinates Spring Coiling manufacturing processes by providing technical support maintenance of manufacturing methods by performing the following duties in the manufacturing phase of the product lifecycle. 

What a typical day looks like:


  • As Process Engineer - Spring Coiling, you will be responsible for the spring coiling lines used to produce metal springs for a medical device.

  • The process owner who is responsible for ensuring flawless, safe, and compliant operation of the different coiling lines.

  • Participate in requirement definition, concept design of new equipment, design reviews, acceptance testing (including review and approval of relevant documents) and in the development of training plans and material for operators and technicians.

  • Develop operational procedures and instructions, and service and maintenance plans in close collaboration with equipment suppliers, technicians, and operators. 

  • Contribute to validation approach: write test and validation protocols and reports as well as supporting the execution of tests and validation activities. 

  • Understand manufacturing and test equipment concepts, technologies and techniques. 

  • Designs manufacturing processes within schedule and budgetary parameters. 

  • Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods. 

  • Define equipment maintenance requirements, identify root-causes of equipment failures and develop hands-on maintenance skills. 

  • Work with other engineering stakeholders and customers on problem solving and continuous improvement to the design of equipment and products and may develop corrective and preventive action plans.

  • May be involved in development and and update of PFMEA for new products.

  • May participate in control plan development.

  • Write and update work instructions and other documents (e.g. specifications, procedures) .

  • Examines and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency. 

  • Confers with production group concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods. 

  • Coordinates with customers to identify product specifications and design changes and responds to customer request. 

  • Provides information for management recommendations from a technical and technical cost perspective. 

  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes. 

  • Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential. 

The experience we’re looking to add to our team:


  • Hands-on training in metal engineering/spring coiling manufacturing.

  • 5+ years of experience with spring coil manufacturing (heat treating of spring coils, spring feeding, spring handling and other related processes).

  • Experience working with Equipment Suppliers and Vendors, selecting equipment, equipment installation, validation, sustaining support, maintenance of equipment.

  • Experience writing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions and delivering training on said SOPs and Work Instructions.

  • Experience working with and presenting information to external customers.

  • Prior experience training other engineers, technicians and related personnel on spring coiling processes (Preferred).
