Summary of Position

The Shipping and Receiving Clerk role issues and distributes materials from the stockroom and ensures the areas run effectively regarding quality and productivity. The position conducts inventory counts as needed, maintain inventory records, compile reports, verify and keep records on outgoing shipments, and prepare items for shipment. Duties include addressing, stamping, and shipping merchandise or material; and arranging of the transportation of products.

Position Requirements


  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Experience with basic computer tasks and Microsoft Office Suite required.

  • Previous experience in manufacturing environment preferred.

  • Previous shipping and receiving experience preferred.

  • Ability to read and understand intermediate level of instructions, such as routing sheets, standard work instructions, and various visual aids.

  • Possess analytical and judgment ability with a clerical aptitude.

  • Ability to follow established procedure.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and easily relate to people

  • Deals with people in a professional, patient, friendly, supportive, and encouraging manner

  • Able to multi-task, prioritize and be flexible.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Provide raw materials to production floor per scheduling requirements.

  • Maintain point-of-use stock levels of indirect materials, such as gloves, trays, alcohol, swabs, etc.

  • Implement and maintain kanbans at point-of-use on the production floor.

  • Verify issued direct materials are appropriate by matching part number and material lot number to production paperwork.

  • May perform material preparation as needed.

  • Return unused materials to stock and stores Work in Process (WIP) materials in designated locations.

  • Provide counts of unused raw materials to inventory. This may involve various methods, such as weighing, counting, measuring, or calculating.

  • Prepare product containers for use.

  • Provide material requirements for point-of-use materials to purchasing for supply chain.

  • Records receiving data, such as quantity and delivery date, and evaluate discrepancies for reporting.

  • Packs and unpacks items to be stored in the stockroom shelves.

  • Stores items in an orderly and accessible manner in inventory locations.

  • Marks stock items using identification tags or stamps

  • Determines proper storage methods, identification, and stock location based on turnover, environmental factors, and physical capabilities of facility.

  • Examines and inspects inventory, reporting any damage to Leader.

  • Verifies inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock and investigates discrepancies or adjusts errors.

  • Issues stock items to appropriate personnel.

  • Records all activities in inventory system.

  • May conduct physical counts and cycle counts and report results.

  • Examines contents and compares with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy of incoming or outgoing shipment.

  • Prepares documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, and shipping orders to route materials.

  • Contacts carrier representative to decide and to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials.

  • Confers and corresponds with company representatives to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, and nonconformance to specifications.

  • Requisitions and stores shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock

  • Packs, seals, labels, and affixes postage to prepare materials for shipping, using work devices such as hand tools, power tools, and postage meter.

  • May determine shipping method for materials, using knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.

  • Palletize prepared product per customer requirements and shipping specifications.

  • Reviews Daily Ship list and prepares required documents and packaging materials as required

  • Works additional hours as required to complete daily shipping requirements.

  • Package product according to customer requirements, creating labels, and verify against production documentation.

  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.
