ABOUT THE ROLE AND OUR TEAM:

The tactical, service-driven Optimization Editor will maximize the performance of predetermined articles using provided guidelines and outlines alongside seasoned judgment. You will bring a passion for improving user experience and bettering business efficacy, which you will channel into boosting the usefulness and visibility of existing content on The Knot website. You will join an editorial team committed to delivering reader satisfaction that inspires educated action. This role reports to the Senior Manager of Content Strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • You are responsible for updating digital editorial content in precise alignment with specific assignment instructions, as well as general (evolving) best practices
  • You publish 1 to 3 article updates per workday, pending their size and the level of effort required
  • Your assignments span multiple content categories and subjects-you are comfortable tackling anything from a comprehensive Connecticut wedding planning guide to a roundup of romantic Christmas card messages
  • You spend most of your time batch-updating templated content series, but can easily pivot to singular, unrelated assignments as needed
  • You consider multiple goals-including article traffic and engagement-to make calculated, copy-level decisions
  • You consistently meet deadlines through disciplined time management, proactively avoiding roadblocks and communicating progress
  • You seamlessly weave SEO into everything you write or edit, organically implementing keyword integration and other recommended strategies
  • You produce your own work in our custom CMS, which may sometimes involve creating tracking links and sourcing article imagery
  • You are an integrated member of the marketing team, which includes working standard hours, attending relevant meetings, and daily use of tools like Google Workspace and Slack


SUCCESSFUL OPTIMIZATION EDITOR CANDIDATES HAVE:


  • At least 5 years of relevant journalism job experience, including multiple years spent updating content for maintenance and improvement
  • Succeeded in a role that required publishing content independently as the final reviewer, responsible for everything from brand alignment to factual accuracy
  • The stamina to focus on a single topic for days or weeks, but the agility to quickly switch gears when the opportunity arises
  • The resourcefulness to regularly reference available information (in addition to your own expert instinct) and apply it to a wide variety of situations
  • A solid understanding of the role of content in a marketing funnel, with experience writing and editing to drive immediate or near-future actions
  • The ability to navigate tools like Semrush to optimize content for search discoverability and user intent
  • Personal accountability demonstrated through everyday initiative, from carefully taking notes to promptly communicating questions
  • The philosophy that editors owe excellence to their readers-clean copy is the bare minimum, consumer trust must always be earned, and strategic creativity is essential
