As the Senior Associate, Formulator for our Home Fragrance category, you will be responsible for the development and qualification of new product formulations that support growth of our Glade® brand. This includes providing technical leadership on a range of project types, while assisting the evaluation of alternative technologies that may deliver consumer preferred benefits. You will participate on cross-functional teams and work under supervision performing tasks with an increasing level of independence, receiving coaching and guidance where needed. You will report into an RD&E Manager in Racine, WI.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Bring curiosity and a bias for action to assigned projects, contributing technology solutions for new offerings that fulfil consumer unmet needs, and enable SCJ's business growth goals.

  • Develop formulations that meet prioritized performance metrics informed by consumer, while achieving industry requirements for safety, quality, & claim support documentation.

  • Stay abreast of emerging ingredient technologies for SCJ businesses, including sustainability, and support competitive assessments which inform portfolio strategy.

  • Demonstrate competency in areas of material selection, product design, iterative prototyping, and performance characterization methods.

  • Model R&D functional skills including effective communication, consumer / customer focus, quality in design, scientific rigor, regulatory compliance, and product safety.

  • Communicate technical concepts effectively with colleagues and stakeholders across functions (R&D, Design, Marketing, Marketing Research, and Product Supply), while expressing your viewpoint and recommendation, which will help unlock speed in execution.

  • Demonstrate ability to navigate ambiguity & uncertainty across range of development activity, applying creativity, critical thinking, and business acumen for informed decision making.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING


  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of science including Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering and a minimum of 4 years of relevant (i.e. formulation) experience OR a master's degree in chemistry with at least 2 years of relevant (i.e. experience.)

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS


  • An awareness of regulatory processes (i.e., EPA registrations), intellectual property strategies, and ability to evaluate the environmental impact of raw materials.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite software & related computer skills.

  • Knowledge of NPD commercialization processes, including experience with material specification development & management (SAP based system or similar).

  • Experience in formulation chemistries (emulsions, gels, polymers, surfactants, solvents, etc.) and/or delivery system designs (aerosols or device technologies, etc.).

  • Application of key product development approaches and tools such as consumer research methods, design of experiments, and FMEA to deliver on product design requirements.

  • Familiarity with hazardous or flammable material handling and transportation requirements.

  • Strong communicator with experience presenting ideas with courage and conviction to business stakeholders.

  • Familiar with eCommerce product design requirements & classifications.
