Position Title: Mgr, Storage Systems and Linux

Location: Salt Lake City, UT, United States

Description:
The Manager of Storage Systems and Linux is responsible for the management, support, and operation of the organization's UNIX/Linux environments and storage/data protection infrastructure. This role will oversee a team of systems administrators, ensuring high availability, performance, and security across all systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in UNIX/Linux administration and enterprise storage solutions, combined with proven leadership and project management abilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of UNIX and storage system administrators. Assign tasks, manage workloads, and provide guidance on technical issues.
  • Systems Administration: Oversee the design, configuration, installation, and maintenance of UNIX/Linux systems and enterprise storage solutions, ensuring optimal performance and availability.
  • Storage Management: Manage enterprise storage infrastructure (SAN/NAS/Object) and data protection (backup/recovery) including monitoring, capacity planning, provisioning, and performance tuning.
  • System Monitoring & Optimization: Implement monitoring tools to track system performance and identify potential bottlenecks. Optimize system performance through capacity planning and tuning.
  • Backup & Disaster Recovery: Develop and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies for UNIX/Linux systems and storage environments.
  • Security Compliance: Ensure all UNIX/Linux and storage systems comply with security policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. Implement security patches and updates as needed.
  • Vendor Management: Liaise with hardware and software vendors to support system upgrades, troubleshooting, and hardware procurement.
  • Incident & Problem Management: Manage and resolve escalated issues, ensuring timely response to incidents and minimizing system downtime.
  • Automation & Scripting: Oversee and develop automation scripts for system administration tasks using Bash, Python, or other scripting languages.
  • Project Management: Plan and execute projects related to systems and storage upgrades, migrations, and implementations.
  • Documentation: Ensure detailed documentation of systems, processes, configurations, and procedures is maintained.


Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically four years of additional related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a Bachelor's degree. A minimum of two years additional directly related technical experience is required
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in UNIX/Linux systems administration, with at least 3+ years in a leadership or management role.
  • Strong expertise in managing enterprise storage solutions.
  • Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Familiarity with security protocols, compliance standards, and patch management in UNIX/Linux environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in automating system administration tasks using scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python, Perl) and automation (Ansible).
  • Experience in working with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead successful teams, both conceptual and pragmatic thinking, with a focus on customer and stakeholder needs.
  • Advocates for results and individual accountability, including continuous improvement, modernization, and positive change in technology and work practices. Embraces teamwork and able to jointly solve technical and procedural challenges.
  • Communicates extremely well with functional team members and ensures accountability and fairness.

  • Effective analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently. Availability as a resource for problem resolution on a 24-hour basis.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Desired qualifications but not required
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or similar UNIX/Linux certification.
  • Storage certifications (e.g., DellEMC, or other enterprise storage technologies).
  • ITIL Foundation certification.
