The Department of Pediatrics employs nearly 1,000 faculty and staff who work alongside employees of Riley Hospital for Children and students of IU School of Medicine to make Riley Children's Health Indiana's largest and most skilled pediatric system. Job Summary



The Program Director is responsible for directing the day-to-day operations of the Automotive Safety Program (ASP).


Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Ensures program operations and activities adhere to applicable federal, state, and university policies and procedures.

  • Provides direct supervision to staff.

  • Serves as a resource on child occupant protection and special needs transportation.

  • Develops and manages effective partnerships with key stakeholders including the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, IUSOM staff, National Safety Council, Safe Kids Worldwide, partner organizations, and families and caregivers.

  • Develops program ideas and grant objectives, formulates funding proposals, and completes necessary procedures for renewal and/or expansion of existing projects.

  • Monitors compliance with grant requirements, including monthly and annual reporting to funding sources. Ensures responsible stewardship of funds.

  • Provides guidance to staff and direction on projects and activities.

  • Participates in hiring staff, provides training, and supports professional development. Edits written work, evaluates performance, and provides feedback. Initiates and implements disciplinary actions as necessary. Primary ownership.

  • Provides leadership in curriculum development including Refresher Course Curriculum.

  • Develops and conducts trainings, workshops, in-services, and presentations on child passenger safety for families, health professionals, and other audiences.

  • Provides technical support to families and professionals. Provides standard child passenger safety technical assistance over the phone, by email, website, appointments, and social media.

  • Provides assistance and coordination of child passenger safety outreach to underserved/vulnerable populations in Indiana counties without CPSTs or inspection stations.

  • Develops research protocols, and outcome assessments and prepare reports for publication.

  • Shares results of programs and research by writing for general and professional audiences and presenting information at professional meetings and conferences

General Responsibilities


  • Provides day-to-day operational management of support staff.

  • Establishes short-term operational objectives.

  • Identifies operational issues and/or areas of improvement and implements solutions to improve processes and/or operational efficiency.

  • Analyzes, monitors, and evaluates performance of assigned staff.

  • Establishes work priorities, conducts performance reviews, and provides corrective action as needed.

  • Ensures adequate staffing and effective scheduling; participates and informs employment decisions for assigned staff.

  • Provides direct supervision and oversight of assigned staff and activities.

  • Impacts, and is held accountable for, the performance of team and/or assigned staff.

  • Ensures and provides training to assigned staff to improve user support operations; researches and identifies development opportunities for assigned staff.

  • Keeps next-level leader(s) informed of trends as well as significant problems.




Qualifications



Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.


EDUCATION



Required



  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in business, management or related field)


Preferred



  • Master's degree in public health, health care, education, or related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE



Required



  • 2 years of program management or related experience.


Preferred



  • 5 years of professional experience, preferably in public health or injury prevention

  • Proposal and budget development and management experience

  • Experience with media, including social media

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATES



Required



  • Possesses a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire


Preferred



  • Certified child passenger safety technician (will train if needed)

Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.


This role includes in-state and out-of-state travel.


The person in this position must have reliable transportation.

Advertised Salary



$65,000-$75,000 per year based on experience, skill level, education, and training.
