Job Description:

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer with extensive experience in both Windows and Linux environments to lead the installation, configuration, and monitoring of complex systems and software. The successful candidate will possess strong proficiency in either Bash or PowerShell scripting, with the ability to manage operations across physical, virtual, and cloud infrastructures.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Support: Provide expert-level support across multiple IT domains, including system performance, network optimization, security administration, and operations management in both Windows and Linux environments (physical, virtual, and cloud-based).

System Installation and Configuration: Lead the deployment of new servers or the reconfiguration of existing infrastructure, ensuring the correct setup of hardware, peripherals, services, directories, and storage in compliance with established project standards and protocols.

Cloud Operations and Transition: Spearhead Cloud Operational projects, collaborating closely with internal IT teams (Infrastructure, Applications, Cybersecurity) to facilitate seamless transitions into Cloud Operations, ensuring proficiency in both Windows and Linux systems.

System Monitoring: Oversee daily system monitoring to ensure hardware integrity, server resource availability, and proper functioning of critical processes. Conduct thorough reviews of system and application logs, verify the successful completion of scheduled tasks (e.g., backups), and engage in proactive security monitoring, vulnerability scanning, and penetration testing.

Performance Optimization: Lead continuous performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization in Windows and Linux environments. Provide technical leadership in troubleshooting efforts, liaising with vendors and internal teams as required.

Scripting and Automation: Leverage expertise in Bash (Linux) or PowerShell (Windows) to automate and optimize system administration tasks, improving operational efficiency.

Documentation and Compliance: Maintain comprehensive documentation of all system administration activities, ensuring strict adherence to service requests, incident management, change management policies, and service level agreements (SLAs).

Innovation and Technology Research: Drive the research and implementation of innovative and automated approaches to system administration, particularly in Cloud operations, to improve efficiency and reliability.

On-Call Support: Participate in the IT operational on-call rotation, providing advanced support for customer applications hosted in both cloud and on-premises environments.

       Minimum of 10 years’ experience in administering both Windows and Linux server operating systems.

       At least 3 years’ experience in planning, managing, and administering large-scale virtualized environments in Azure and/or AWS.

       Demonstrated proficiency in Linux operating systems, particularly in system monitoring and performance management.

Strong scripting experience with either Bash (Linux) or PowerShell (Windows).

Strong WAN and LAN configuration and troubleshooting skills.

Exhibits mature organization and time management skills.

U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident status required

Education:

Required: Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of study

Combination of experience and/or education can be substituted for a degree

Preferred: Master’s degree in a relevant field of study

Certifications (s), Licenses:

Preferred: RHCE, RHCA, Linux+, Windows

Networking Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of WAN and LAN configuration, along with advanced troubleshooting skills.
