University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) at Sacramento State is seeking an Outreach Specialist for the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP). CAMP is a unique educational program at Sacramento State that assists students from migrant and seasonal farm worker backgrounds to succeed in obtaining a college degree. The program is primarily funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Students receive outreach, admission, academic, and personal support services to ease the transition from high school to Sacramento State. CAMP admits 70 freshmen every year and provides follow-up services to approximately 300 continuing students.

RATE OF PAY: $22.42 - $33.63 per hour

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position is a full-time, non-exempt (eligible for overtime pay), benefited position, with a defined contribution retirement plan through TIAA. (The position is not covered under the California Public Employees’ Retirement System.) Continued employment in this position is dependent upon funding and the mutual consent of University Enterprises and the employee, and either University Enterprises or the employee, can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause. Program continuation is contingent upon funding.

The selected candidate must furnish proof of eligibility to work in the United States. University Enterprises, Inc. is not a sponsoring agency (i.e. H-1B Visa).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s Degree in one of the Behavioral or Social Sciences, Education or related field or equivalent
combination of education and/or work experience.
2. Demonstrated experience working with minority and low-income students in academic and/or career
advisement.
3. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with a variety of people, e.g., students, parents, coworkers, school personnel, faculty, agency personnel.
4. Demonstrated skill to work independently with little direction and coordinate many different tasks, determining the importance of each, setting deadlines, and completing projects accordingly.
5. Demonstrated general knowledge of the unique cultural traits found in migrant families.
6. Excellent presentation skills in a one-on-one or group setting.
7. Excellent command of the English and Spanish language including grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
8. Knowledge in General Education (GE) areas such as GE advising, GE catalog, and graduation requirements.
9. Ability to navigate through the MySacState portal, Student Center, and CMS.
10. Demonstrated familiarity with email, word processing, and spreadsheet computer applications, such as the
programs in the Microsoft Office Suite.
11. Demonstrated experience effectively communicating and working with all levels of employees and/or
participants while maintaining a professional demeanor and exercising tact and good judgment.
12. Experience handling and maintaining confidential information.
13. Must be legally eligible to drive in California, complete and pass an online training course, maintain a good
driving record, and be acceptable for vehicle insurance coverage under the University Enterprises insurance
plan. Must continue to meet the established driving standards, driving record will be monitored with the
California Department of Motor Vehicles to ensure compliance. Must have reliable transportation.
14. Must be fingerprinted and pass a background check. Must continue to meet the established standards.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer terminals, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, scanners, and fax machines. Use of public transportation or own transportation.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office environment, with continuous contact with staff, the campus community, the public, and other agencies. Frequent travel throughout Northern California is required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The position is responsible for recruiting eligible students to the CAMP program by providing one-on-one and group information and assistance concerning higher education enrollment opportunities, policies, and procedures to prospective migrant and under-represented students and their families. The position is responsible for executing all outreach activities and special projects, and for maintaining the case management for outreach. The position reports directly to the CAMP Program Coordinator. The position supervises part-time student assistants.

The specific duties and responsibilities are as follows:
1. Travels throughout Northern California and makes presentations to students, school personnel, community
organizations, parent advisory committees, and community agencies regarding CAMP, EOP, Admission to
Sacramento State/A-G, and financial aid.
2. Verifies student program eligibility for CAMP, EOP, and Admission to Sacramento State by following up on a dayto-day basis via phone, letters, and emails.
3. Conducts campus tours to all prospective students, families, and community organizations.
4. Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with campus programs, academic departments,
community agencies, high school counselors, and migrant education personnel.
5. Prepares weekly updates to the director/coordinator regarding admitted CAMP students, as well as
documenting outreach events for yearly reports.
6. Plans and participates in CAMP Admitted Student Day, housing workshop, and orientation for all incoming CAMP students.
7. Schedules outreach visits, on-campus visits, college fairs, and parent financial aid/admissions workshops.
8. Assists prospective students, current CAMP students, and continuing CAMP students with questions regarding
course selection, registration date, Financial Aid award letters, scholarships, and community service.
9. Explains navigating the Sacramento State Student Center including Holds, Account Balance, and To-Do List.
10. Collaborates with other equity programs and departments on campus and off-campus when coordinating events or workshops.
11. Leads and conducts student employee/intern training/workshops.
12. Supervises program assistants and student interns.
13. Covers the front desk when needed.
