General Summary



Perform a variety of routine and specialized technical procedures. Schedules examinations in accordance with MRI protocols and procedures. Maintains a smooth operational and productive workflow.



Principal Responsibilities and Tasks



The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.



Clinical Practice/Patient Care - Operates Magnetic Resonance Imaging technicalequipment in accordance with standard operating procedures according to the Diagnostic Imaging Department's P&P manual.


A. Demonstrates clinical competence in Musculoskeletal, Neurology and Body.


B. Demonstrates basic knowledge in computers and information processing, computer applications, image capture, display and storage. Demonstrates the ability to fix studies in the private area in collaboration with IDXRAD.


C. Responds to patient care emergencies. Understands and demonstrates MR and patient safety.


D. Demonstrates basic knowledge of skills and practice necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients.


E. Demonstrates continuing education in MRI.


F. Documents QA activities appropriately.


G. Selects protocols as appropriate.


H. Provides patient safety and protection in accordance with federal and state regulatory agencies, accreditation agencies and health care organizations.



Leadership - Oversees and coordinates the daily work activities of MRI scanner inaccordance to MRI standard practices.


A. Participates in the scheduling of work with support personnel on their assigned shift.


B. Reviews requests for radiology procedures with the assistance of the radiologists or Radiographer 3/Supervisor when necessary



Unit Management



A. Notifies Chief Tech/Team Leader of requests for protocol changes.


B. Communicates with clinicians regarding patient preparation for procedures.


C. Complies with established departmental and UMMS standards and practices/procedures


D. Assists in ensuring unit based products available (i.e. O2 tubing, etc).

Qualifications

Qualifications



  • Graduation from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology; registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists; licensed by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is required. CPR certification is required.

  • Knowledge of cross sectional anatomy preferred.

  • Knowledge and understanding of imaging principles and practices.


Working Conditions



  • Weekend, shift work, holiday, on-call, and overtime may be required.

  • Work requires lifting, and moving patients on and off of a MRI table

  • There is a potential for regular exposure to patients with infectious diseases, to hazardous materials, and the magnetic resonance gradient and static fields. Universal Precautions must be followed by wearing protective clothing, lab coat, gloves, masks as necessary.
