The Building Performance Lead is part of the program delivery team responsible for implementing innovative and equitable residential energy-efficiency programs on behalf of a client serving customers in various geographic markets.  This position is accountable for coordinating and delivering technical trainings specific to residential HVAC and weatherization best practices. It supports contractors and other program partners helping deliver energy efficiency programs. This position is also tasked with developing, managing, and expanding relationships with relevant market actors in the area through ongoing outreach and quality assurance activities.

  • Acts as portfolio building science expert for the development of best practices, standard operating procedures, and inspection processes  



  • Builds relationships with contractors within the portfolio  



  • Supports the development of training curriculum aimed at increasing contractor capacity and ability to participate in program offers. 



  • Coordinates and delivers virtual and in-person trainings to audiences of varying sizes and backgrounds. 



  • Solicits feedback from contractors to assist in prioritization of training content and generates interest in trainings to ensure strong attendance.  



  • Collaborates with external training providers, distributors, and manufacturer representatives to align on messaging, leverage existing training content and increase influence across contractor base. 



  • Develops and coordinates plans with technical colleges, trade schools, vocational programs etc to further the development of energy efficiency modeling, assessment and installation know-how in the served markets.  



  • Supports quality assurance activities through the inspection of weatherization and HVAC measures. 



  • Conducts ad hoc BPI 2400 energy audits as required to serve hard to reach customers, to provide OTJ Training 



  • Acts as a local program and company representative at various events. 



  • Reports activity in the market on a monthly basis in a narrative format. 



  • Performs other tasks as determined and assigned

Work environment 


This position is remote, with occasional travel to meet organizational or client needs.


Physical demands 



  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 



  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times. 


Travel required 


Determined by business needs, estimated between 25-50% annually these trips will be to support remote portfolios outside of the positions local area. These trips will include fieldwork.  


Required education and experience 



  • 5+ years combined work experience with Residential trades, non-profit organizations, community organizing, environmental advocacy, energy efficiency and/or project management. 



  • Building Performance Institute (BPI) Certification or the ability to quickly obtain or recertify  



  • Team-oriented, hands-on, highly skilled, adaptive, and client-focused. 



  • Strong Microsoft Office, writing and reporting skills 



  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and communicate progress of task completion. 



  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 



  • Ability to work under stress, interruptions, and tight deadlines. 



  • Strong attention to detail and quality; organized and process-oriented. 



  • Available to occasionally work evenings and a few weekends supporting events. 



  • Background Check Required; Valid Driver’s License 


Preferred education and experience 



  • Bilingual communication skills (Spanish) 



  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or related field  



  • Thorough understanding of residential energy efficiency, building science, sales and technical principles, theories and concepts of HVAC equipment and weatherization best practices  



  • Experience using diagnostic tools including blower door, duct blaster, and flow plate  



  • Presentation and public speaking proficiency
