Job Summary:

The Senior Director of Grants and Foundation Relations directs and manages the financial development programs related to Grants and Foundation Relations for the YMCA of the North. This position develops and uses philanthropic strategies to ensure that the organization is successful in fundraising for programs and services needed to meet our goals and mission. The incumbent is a key member of the Mission Advancement philanthropic senior leadership team.

Essential Functions

Manage, retain, and motivate a competent and committed grants team, including YMCA Team members and contracted workers.
Design and implement a Grant and Foundation Relations strategy to achieve the goals and objectives of the YMCA of the North through prospecting, writing proposals and reports.
Oversee a portfolio of 300+ grant funders producing more than $25 million annually with a goal to retain and increase funder giving and ensure compliance with stated grant goals.
Steward donors and foundation relationships to create long-lasting relationships with the YMCA.
Collaborate with other members of the Mission Advancement, Finance, and Program teams to reduce the gap in program budgets.
Collaborate with Grants Team, Mission Advancement leadership, and other partners to identify and solicit new grant prospects utilizing a 'moves management' approach to guide funders through their journey of supporting the YMCA.
Maintain strong relationships with grants contractors and potential grants contractors to ensure team capacity to meet organizational needs.
Partner with leaders in evaluation contracts and database administration to accurately track data and analyze impacts, meet grant requirements, and enable continuous improvement for program staff.
Partner with leaders in grants compliance to ensure the YMCA of the North meets its contractual obligations, including reporting, grant audit visits, tracking and compliance of all grant contracts, and the Y's ability to meet complex deliverables.
Develop and obtain the knowledge and skills needed to demonstrate expertise in the field of financial development.

Relationships:

This position reports to the Senior Vice President of Philanthropy who reports to the Executive Vice President of Advancement. The incumbent directly supervises the Grants Team. The incumbent interacts regularly with team members at all levels of the organization and may also interact with board volunteers, campaign leaders, and senior leaders.

Qualifications:

Required

Bachelor's Degree in a related field of study or demonstrated experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in Grant Writing with a proven track record of success.
Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in a fundraising environment.
Complete working knowledge of government, foundation and corporate grants, capital development, and moves management system.
Ability to work effectively with senior leadership and program staff.
Confidence to build relationships with volunteers, donors, government agency staff, elected officials and professional leaders in the community.
Ability to ask grant makers and government agencies to provide necessary financial resources and to carry out the plans of the organization.
Demonstrate maturity, good judgement, and high ethical standards.
Ability to serve a variety of constituents in a professional, non-partisan manner.

Preferred

Knowledge of Raiser's Edge Software
Bi/multilingual

Physical Demands:

Work on a computer for extended periods of time.
Travel locally for meetings and special events.
