JOB DESCRIPTION



Wood is currently recruiting for an Electrical and Instrumentation Designer with experience in the chemical manufacturing industry. You will be responsible for design work supporting facility-based projects in an active chemical manufacturing plant as part of that plant's capital project's group in Richmond, Virginia.

Authorization to work permanently in the U.S. without sponsorship required.



RESPONSIBILITIES



The Instrument & Electrical Designer will work with project managers, site personnel, and others to complete design requests from plant personnel. Perform drawing search, field walkdowns, check out appropriate drawings, and generate a design proposal to satisfy the request. Present initial design to stake holders for review, when initial design has been accepted, develop final design and supporting documents (schematics, single line diagrams, P&IDs, vendor supplied equipment, etc.). Write scopes of work for construction. Work with the stake holders to schedule meetings for review of final design package. Provide support to plant personnel for installation, working with maintenance and/or contractors. After installation, record all "as-builts" so that documentation matches parts and equipment installed.


Additional Duties:

  • Update existing drawings as directed, to reflect as-built condition. Drawings may include Piping, Mechanical, E&I, and P&IDs.
  • Create new drawings as needed.
  • Manage document control system.





QUALIFICATIONS



  • 15+ years of practical and applicable industrial design experience.
  • Solid experience with E&I design systems preferred.
  • Familiar with safety policies and procedures as practices in industrial facilities.
  • Experience using 2D CAD for drafting & design, MicroStation preferred.
  • Knowledge of industrial processes, fabrication and construction techniques, equipment, design philosophies, codes, industry standards, and practices.
  • Competent in industry standard E&I design practices.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of electrical codes and the ability to follow local codes.
  • Ability to measure equipment in the field to create layouts and drawings.
  • Ability to communicate with machine operators & engineers to design & create equipment to accomplish tasks required for area operations.
  • Familiar with designing systems using a variety of materials of construction.
  • Capable of generating a material take-off and full bill of materials for each design.
  • Good understanding of all aspects of preparing and sending design packages, drawings, etc. for quote to shops.
  • Solid skill with Microsoft Word, Excel, & Outlook programs.
