Assistant / Prep Cook

Full-Time, Saturday thru Wednesday 10:30am-7:00pm

$18.73 to 19.00 per hour

SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Executive Chef or Sous Chef, an Assistant Cook is responsible for preparing food as directed by a senior Cook. Plating dishes in an attractive way, and ensuring the quality of different dishes. The assistant Cook is responsible for knowing how to use a variety of techniques to prepare whatever dish he/she is assigned to. Often the assistant cook is assigned to a single station where he/she will be responsible for preparing a single type of food by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

•Provides quality Customer Service efficiently to residents, families, co-workers and vendors in a manner to ensure satisfaction.

•Prepares everything from main dishes to salads, breads, pasta and even desserts.

•May work a single station, such as the pasta station, or may be responsible for any number of dishes as needed.

•Responsible for the storage of food, both incoming stock and leftovers.

•Assist in unloading delivery trucks and ensuring that food is stored in the appropriate conditions.

•Responsible for determining if leftovers of either prepared or partially prepared food can be reused or if they must be disposed of.

•Called upon to help Executive Chef test new recipes.

•Keep track of what supplies they use to aid in re-ordering supplies as necessary.

•Responsible for his or her own station, ensuring that all items are appropriately cleaned and ready for use before and after each shift.

•During food service, the assistant cook is responsible for keeping the station in working order and fully stocked.

•Responsible for preparing items prior to a meal service, such as chopping vegetables, butchering meat, or cleaning seafood.

•Responsible for ensuring that the kitchen meets sanitation standards.

•Follows highest standards of cleanliness. Follows all federal, state and corporate policies, health codes and guidelines in preparation and handling of foodstuffs.

•Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner. Wears safety equipment as required for the job. Reports any safety hazards and/or accidents to supervisor.

•Follow department safety standards, practice correct body mechanic techniques and participate in campus-wide safety programs.

•Attends all mandatory in-service meetings. Complies with all department and facilities policies and procedures.

•Understand facility’s fire and disaster plans; follow established procedures during drills and actual emergencies.

Other duties as Tray Delivery Service:

• Tray servers are responsible for positive guest interactions while delivering food trays in a friendly and efficient manner. At all times, tray servers are expected to be attentive to our resident’s need.

• Tray servers are expected to have some basic cooking knowledge by performing some of the following duties:

• Distribute menus, collect diet sheets, and prepare/deliver food trays and snacks to nursing units or directly to residents.

• Portion and wrap the food or place it directly on plates for service to residents.

• Prepare and serve a variety of beverages such as coffee, tea, and soft drinks.

• Package take-out foods or serve food to residents.

• Work on assembly lines adding cutlery, napkins, food, and other items to trays.

• Weigh or measure ingredients.
