This position will work a 12-hour rotating shift (Hours would be 0430-1630 or 1630-0430) with a 2,2,3 rotation. You would be assigned a shift, but you would still have the potential to work either day shift or night shift.

Due to continued growth and the introduction of new technologies across the site, we are looking for a qualified candidate to support the Utility Operations team in a GMP and Non-GMP environment.

In this role you will be responsible for operating the Plant Utility systems both GMP and Non-GMP, starting and stopping various utility systems using a BMS and DeltaV control system, monitoring utility systems, responding to all alarms, and performing rounds which include taking daily log readings on various utility systems.

What you'll do:


  • Operate plant utilities: medium pressure boilers, chillers, glycol system, air compressors, USP water system, water softeners, RO systems, biowaste inactivation, waste neutralization, WFI stills, clean steam generators and compressed air, oxygen, nitrogen, argon and CO2 gas delivery systems.

  • Provide troubleshooting expertise on problem utility equipment and serve as system expert for the utility systems.

  • Assist with equipment upgrade planning, establishing maintenance practices and schedules, and fills in as needed in the absence of the Utilities Supervisor.

  • Provide training and guidance to less senior Utility Operators.

Qualifications

This work requires occasionally ascending/descending a ladder, entering mechanical spaces that could be difficult to traverse, moving/lifting up to 50 lbs. as well as the ability to stand for up to 3 hours at a time.

This position requires to frequently move about the campus to access different equipment and perform different tasks.


  • High School Diploma or equivalent. 2 years trade school, commensurate military experience or a pharmaceutical background is a plus.

  • 5 years relevant experience.

  • Solid Mechanical skills.

  • BMS or equivalent operating systems and controls experience.

  • Thorough knowledge of steam systems, air systems, chillers, water systems.

  • Experience influencing and leading others.

  • Adaptable to changing needs and demands, comfortable navigating in a changing environment.

  • Great organization and time management skills, being efficient and productive.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity; quickly understands the needs based on the situation at hand.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to all levels of the organization.

  • Basic computer skills. (Microsoft Office Suite).

  • Ability to interact with others in a professional and courteous manner in accordance with Biogen's Core Behaviors

  • Proficient with lock-out tag-out safety procedures and energized system work practices.

  • Practical knowledge of GMP's Prior experience as a utility operator in a complex pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
