Job Description:

Schneider Electric has an opportunity for a Business Development Manager located in Denver, Salt Lake City, Portland, or Seattle.

In this role you will be responsible for the attainment of overall sales in an assigned geographic territory for surge protective devices (SPDs) in the marketplace. Objectives are achieved through the effective management of all sales resources to promote and develop the Company's products and markets. Sales are through authorized distributor partners.

What will you do?


  • Achieve sales quota through the management of the territory's resources.

  • Work with sales manager and territory inside sales representative to develop and implement short and long-term strategic plans to support company objectives.

  • Perform technical product presentations and demonstrations.

  • Drive favorable specifications for Square D Surgelogic SPDs at electrical consultants, work with Consulting Application Engineers (CAEs) team where possible help to achieve this objective.

  • Train, motivate, and manage National Sales Force (NSF) partners to achieve sales volumes.

  • Work with NSF, TSE, GEO, and KAM to support SE product sales efforts in the assigned territory.

  • Work with Area Channel Manager (ACM) to support distributor partner sales and objectives.

  • Develop long term relationships with customer base, NSF team, distributor channel partners, electrical contractors, and consulting engineers.

  • Understand and be able to develop a bill of material from electrical drawings and specifications.

  • Ability to learn and utilize company database including:
    o Entering detailed contact and project information.
    o Research, understand and update customer profiles.

  • Ability to understand competitive situations and how to overcome pricing objections.

  • Assist with product forecasting and implementation of marketing plans and promotions.

  • Travel 60-75% and maintain travel and entertainment expenses within guidelines.


What skills and capabilities will make you successful?

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field

  • at least five (5) years related experience in the surge protection/electrical field.

  • Fluency in basic electrical fundamentals.

  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic components and systems.

  • Working knowledge of power quality and its implications.

  • Ability to conduct technical presentations, in person and via webinar, detailing company products and services to distributors, contractors, end users and consulting engineers.

  • Positive teambuilding and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must be organized and a self-starter who can work with minimal direction.

  • Capacity for learning the basics of the electrical industry and specifics of surge protection.

  • Strong information gathering and fact-finding skills.

  • Good decision making and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong presentation skills.

  • Live within the assigned territory.


For this Colorado and Washington based position, the expected compensation range is $105,000.00-$120,000.00 per year, which includes base pay, commission and short-term incentive.

The compensation range for this full-time position applies to candidates located within the United States. Our salary ranges are determined by reviewing roles of similar responsibility and level. Within the salary range, individual pay is determined by several factors including performance, knowledge, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
