Job Summary

To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add an Automation Engineer – Injection Molding Assembly located in Libertyville, IL

Reporting to the Process Engineering Manager, the Automation Engineer – Injection Molding Assembly is responsible for specifying, designing and maintaining automation equipment, tooling and applications as required to meet specifications. 

Travel: 20% travel both domestically and internationally.

What a typical day looks like:


  • Design, engineer, and modify existing and new moderately-complex automation equipment, tooling and applications to automate manufacturing processes. 

  • Program robots (Yaskawa, Universal, Omron) and automation equipment (Omron, Mitsubishi, Allen-Bradley – Rockwell, Keyence) 

  • Experience with the design and implementation of automated systems, especially as related to manufacturing 

  • Develop and Maintain equipment standards for design, components, controls, signals & documentation 

  • Develop Scope of Work documentation to be followed for new equipment projects 

  • Electrical/Mechanical knowledge and ability to PLC programming (RS Logix) 

  • Wiring of controls including working knowledge of safety relay circuitry 

  • Troubleshoot to determine problems in non-functioning electro-mechanical equipment used in the manufacturing process 

  • Establish technical manuals, drawings, models, training documentation, preventative maintenance plans and troubleshooting guides for automated equipment and automated processes. 

  • Understand the machine operating standards,  onsequence of wear and tear parts and product defects 

  • Ensure the uptime of machines through regular preventive maintenance and breakdown maintenance 

  • Should be willing to learn & enhance the skill in all type of Automation equipment. 

  • Should prepare why-why evaluation & drive for permanent corrective actions. 

  • Should be able to give feedback to improve the design of process and equipment. 

  • Directs daily department activities to maximize equipment utilization and support production needs.

  • Coordinates maintenance activities with other functional groups such as engineering and operations to ensure the efficient operation of the departmental function. 

  • Collaborates and offers input to planning, building, and maintaining the Automation framework and associated processes for new products. 

  • Identifies and drives change to ensure automation effectiveness of existing processes. 

  • Demonstrates and thorough understanding of customer requirements, offer suggestions and ideas on how best to deliver automation solutions. 

The experience we’re looking to add to our team:


  • BS in Plastics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or 5+ years’ experience in a plastics manufacturing related discipline and relevant plastics training.

  • 5+ years related experience in a technology-based industry, where automated assembly techniques are utilized.

  • 5+ years experience working in manufacturing of medical parts/assemblies

  • Industrial Engineering experience working in a high-volume injection molding operation.

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment using injection molding machines and related auxiliary equipment.

  • Knowledge of automated equipment systems and tools including robotic, vision, material handling, conveyors, PLC, HMI, Pick-Place-Pack, Inspection/Test (Structural and Non-Contact e.g. Laser), Application of lasers e.g. Etching/Marking, Dispensing Processes, Plastics Welding and Joining.

  • Experience using AutoCAD and/or Solidworks CAD tools.
