Job Overview

  • The Senior Advisor of Nurture NJ serves as a subject mater expert on maternal and child health, overseeing the statewide Nurture NJ program, launched by First Lady Tammy Murphy in 2019, to reduce the maternal and infant mortality epidemic in New Jersey and ensure equitable care among women and children of all races and ethnicities.
  • This role will support and inform the development of the Maternal and Infant Health Innovation Center in Trenton, and will serve as a day-to-day resource for both EDA staff as well as the leadership team at the New Jersey Maternal and Infant Health Innovation Authority as they coordinate, promote, and implement education, policymaking, research, innovation, and perinatal workforce development, with a particular focus on eliminating racial disparities in maternal and infant health outcomes.
  • The ideal candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of maternal and child health, familiarity with New Jersey maternal and infant health policy, experience in developing the perinatal workforce, and identify resources for MIHIC and related anchor partners.

$99,120 - $123,900

Note: The NJEDA currently offers a hybrid work schedule for up to 2 days of telecommute work from home. To participate, you will be required to have high speed home internet access and a manager's approval. This program does not supersede the "New Jersey First Act", which requires newly hired NJEDA employees to establish and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey.



Responsibilities

Duties

Daily Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a subject matter expert for MIHIA and NJEDA staff on maternal and infant health policy, both in New Jersey and across the United States, perinatal workforce development, grant writing, research, and project management.
  • Oversees and implements the milestones identified in the Nurture NJ strategic plan.

Projects:

  • Informs the creation and design of the Maternal and Infant Health Innovation Center in Trenton, specifically with a focus in perinatal workforce development and clinical quality improvement.
  • Serves as a liaison between MIHIA and community-based organizations.
  • Identifies funding and resources for MIHIC and related anchor partners, including researching grant opportunities and applying for funds.

Goals and Objectives:

  • Furthers the development of the MIHIC and supports the MIHIA Senior Leadership team.

Collaboration and Cross-Divisional Interaction:

  • Works closely with the MIHIA Senior Leadership team, NJEDA staff, the Governor’s Office and First Lady’s Office, and community based organizations.
  • Demonstrates the highest caliber of communication, management, and the ability to lead interdisciplinary initiatives.
  • Possesses the ability to navigate fast paced work environments efficiently and effectively.

Reporting Structure:

  • The Senior Advisor of Nurture NJ will report to Lisa Asare, President and CEO of the New Jersey Maternal and Infant Health Innovation Authority. This role will also report into Tara Colton, Chief Economic Security Officer at NJEDA.
  • This role is highly autonomous, driving the Nurture New Jersey Strategic Plan, and serving as the primary external point of contact for external stakeholders, community based-organizations, government entities, and health care providers supporting Nurture NJ.
  • Must complete annual self-assessment as required.
  • Performs other duties and special projects, as assigned.


Qualifications

Skills and Qualifications

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new software packages.

Soft Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of maternal and child health, New Jersey maternal and infant health policy, perinatal workforce development and grant writing.
  • Exceptional written, oral and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interface with a broad range of stakeholders, including senior management, the MIHIA Board of Directors, staff, government officials, industry partners, and community groups.
  • Ability to prioritize workload, must be highly organized, detail-oriented, handle various tasks simultaneously and work independently within limited time constrains with little or no supervision.
  • Demonstrates respectful behavior and promotes teamwork and communication to encourage an interactive, cooperative, collaborative and customer focused work environment.

Certifications:

  • N/A

Experience:

  • 7 years of work experience in healthcare, government, maternal and infant health, or related fields.
  • Advanced degree or industry specific certification may be substituted for 1 year of experience

Education:

  • RN degree or advanced degree in healthcare is desirable

Software/Tools Proficiency:

  • N/A
  • NJEDA utilizes Microsoft as the core application platform and proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.

Additional Information

  • Minimal physical demands and ability to work out normal business hours
  • Travel expected when necessary for business operations

Certificates and Licenses Required

  • Staff are required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essentials duties of the position.
