Technical Writer III

Orlando, FL (Hybrid)

Position Summary

Thales is looking for a Technical Writer III to perform enhanced technical writing in the creation of ATA-compliant Technical Publications’ Tech Data (i.e., operation\maintenance manuals, Service Bulletins) and other Technical Documentation from a variety of released source documents.  

Research/gather technical released source data information to develop/release Tech Data in accordance with company policies/procedures, assuring airworthiness/regulatory requirements are met. Ensure produced Tech Data’s accuracies and compliance while assuring Technical Documentation meets established quality, regulatory, and customer standards, budgets, and deadlines.

Shall be the Technical Publications ‘S1000D SME (Subject Matter Expert) for Data Architecture (definition of XML tags, How to best use of our tools…), the creation/development and maintenance of S1000D compliant Technical publications (Data Module Generation, development and deliveries of Thales’ XML Data Packages).

Possesses the ability to support multiple Tech Data Developments concurrently in efforts to deliver technical documentation. 

In this position, you will also work in a team environment with multiple participants (customers, suppliers, subject matter experts and management), and the analysis of multiple inputs for determining proper and correct information to be placed in technical documentation to be delivered.

Key Areas of Responsibility


  • Develop, revise and review technical documentation of complex technical content with company developed and contractor tools associated with released Engineering, Program Management, and others’ (OEM, Airline, etc.) documentation.

  • With their management and their Lead, provides a level of expertise regarding the Industry Standards (ATA-2200, S1000D) Thales must be complaint to.   

  • Support evaluations of submitted new/change requests to determine requirements, analyze engineering correspondences for completeness and accuracy for incorporation for accomplished.


  •  Responsible to provide technical writing aspects in the development and distribution of technical documentation in compliance with Company’s Standards, Air Transport Association (ATA) Standards, Simplified Technical English (STE), and Aircraft Manufacturer (OEM) Guidelines; Responsible for coordinating with necessary personnel in Engineering, Program Management, Customer Services and Support, Manufacturing Engineering, and other functional departments to ensure timely and accurate completion of deliverables.

  • Support the gathering of information for technical documentation development/changes from controlled resources (TeamCenter, SAP, etc.) assuring our team’s deliverables are always compliant; Review of BOMs (Bill Of Materials), Review of Drawings and Schematics, Review of Supplier Source Data/Information, Other Forms of Technical Documentation.

  • Supports the maintenance of periodic Key Performance Indictor (KPIs) Reports detailing overall status of developments highlighting quantity, difficulties to complete, and deliveries against Estimated Completion Dates (ECD).

Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 5 years’ equivalent work experience.

  • 4 to 7 Years’ experience as a Technical Writer within the Aerospace Industry, producing common Industry Standard Technical Data, producing structured electronic manuals/data modules compliant to SGML, XML (Data Modules), and S1000D BREXs (Business Rules); 2-3 Years’ SME (Subject Matter Expert) experience on S1000D Data Module (DM) Generation/Maintenance.

  • 4 years’ experience supporting multi-developments/projects at a single time.

  • 5 years’ experience of Computer Skills including the use of Microsoft Office suite, ERP, and Engineering BOM Systems; Able to accurately read / understand / interpret electro-mechanical engineering drawings and software documentation.

  • Exceptional Written, Oral, and Listening Communication Skills along with strong reasoning and analytical skills for decision-making ability; Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment.
