Performs complex professional accounting work involving recording, analyzing, reconciling, and monitoring local and state funds and transactions in accordance with federal, state, and university guidelines.

1. Reviews and reconciles complex accounts, including the university’s operating and disbursement account and state appropriations; researches discrepancies and issues; provides accounting and technical guidance to other university departments for the resolution of reconciling items.


2. Supervises the university’s banking operation, and serves as campus liaison with UHS Treasury for banking transactions and reporting.


3. Reviews and analyzes bank transaction data; communicates with university departments to ensure bank transactions are properly recorded; and researches and resolves issues.


4. Calculates weekly tuition deposits to the state treasury, calculates Texas Public Educational Grant (TPEG) transfer amounts, and prepare periodic tuition split comparisons.


5. Supervises staff in the preparation of account general ledger entries for University wire transfers; provides accounting and technical guidance.


6. Serves as backup for the preparation of wire transfer to requests for student refunds and from the Department of Education for direct loans.


7. Supervises staff in the preparation of general ledger entries for online store and point of sale revenues, and the sales tax return; coordinates security for point of sale banking application, including user accounts and access privileges.


8. Prepares state accounting entries in compliance with accounting policy statements and fiscal policies and procedures; reviews state transaction data; and monitors fund balances.


9. Assists the Manager, Financial Reporting with the preparation of fiscal year-end journal entries and reports.


10. Gathers and prepares statistical data for management analysis.


11. Reports unclaimed property to the State Comptroller annually.


12. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

City Location

The University of Houston-Victoria is located in Victoria, Texas, the commerce and entertainment center of the Texas Coastal Bend region. UHV Location

The University of Houston-Victoria shares a campus with the Victoria College. The UHV campus includes many new buildings which contains classrooms, offices, and media and computer labs, and faculty and administrative offices.Dorm facilities include The Jaguar Suites, Smith Hall, Jaguar Hall and Jaguar Court residence halls for students that are a short, 10-minute walk to the main campus. 

History

In the 1960s, the citizens of the Victoria area realized that greater opportunities were needed in higher education. No institution within a hundred-mile radius offered baccalaureate and master’s degrees. Many junior college students and graduates in the region wanted to continue studying beyond an associate degree, and a growing number of people who had bachelor’s degrees were anxious to pursue master’s degrees. To meet those needs, UHV opened in 1973.

Accreditation 

UHV is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor’s and master’s degrees. 

Role and Scope

The University of Houston-Victoria is one of four universities in the University of Houston System. The primary role of UHV is to provide undergraduate and graduate instruction to students within and beyond the Texas Coastal Bend region. 

Organization

UHV is governed by a Board of Regents and the Chancellor of the University of Houston System. Administrative responsibility is vested in the UHV President.

The University of Houston-Victoria, located in the heart of the Coastal Bend region, offers courses leading to approximately 60 degree programs and concentrations in the Colleges of Liberal Arts & Soc Sciences, Natural & Applied Sciences, Business Administration, and Education & Health Professions.
