Job Description:

Quantum Design, Inc. is a well-established advanced physics technology manufacturing and distribution company located in San Diego, California. Quantum Design is the leading commercial source for automated materials characterization systems incorporating superconducting technology in low-temperature quantum physics. The Production Department works single shift and has expertise in a wide variety of assembly types and techniques with complex assembly sequences. Quantum Design's Products are low volume and high mix, making it a challenging and dynamic manufacturing environment.

The Production Supervisor will lead a group of skilled assembly and test technicians and will be responsible for directing the daily activities to meet Safety, Quality, and Productivity goals while driving continuous improvement of efficiency using Lean methodologies.



Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Directs a manufacturing department and manages the resources – equipment, and staff – to meet production schedules and targeted inventory levels.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, directing, motivating, and appraising staff including disciplinary action and termination.
  • Defines employee goals and growth paths. Monitors employee performance on skill, output, and quality. Conducts regular alignment and performance reviews to provide feedback for employee development.
  • Develops and coaches production area leads.
  • Determines work schedules and overtime and resolves personnel challenges as they occur.
  • Tracks key performance indicators. Communicate results to staff, support groups, and management.
  • Drives efficiency gains, cost reduction, and quality improvement in manufacturing processes.
  • Acts as a change agent for eliminating waste throughout the manufacturing operation by deployment of Lean methodologies.
  • Identifies manufacturing deficiencies and investigates root causes. Actively participates in corrective action processes with engineers and other support groups for timely and full resolution.
  • Drives a quality and safety-focused culture by involving employees in problem-solving and decision-making, as well as continuous improvement routines such as Kaizens, 6s.
  • Establishes and conducts regular manufacturing equipment maintenance to prevent downtime.
  • Assures a clean and safe working environment, emphasizing prevention of potential problems and hazardous conditions, and supports safety programs.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline is preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in leading a manufacturing team.
  • Strong team spirit and expertise in training and motivating employees.
  • Proficient at prioritizing deadlines and delegating tasks.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution.
  • Competent at standard inventory practices.
  • Experience in creating operating procedures and reading technical drawings
  • Quality and Safety focused. Expertise in training tool usage and safety.
  • Strong ability to seek out project closure.
  • Proven understanding and practice of Lean Manufacturing concepts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including group presentations.
  • Proficient in MS Office tools.
  • Weekend availability when required for reaching specific deadlines or goals.
  • 100% on-site position
