A DAY IN THE LIFE



Enthalpy Analytical, is part of the larger organization, Montrose Environmental Group, is comprised of over nine laboratories servicing air, water, soil, and toxicity testing. Regulations drive the need for our services, but our unique capabilities allow us to add value to clients beyond environmental compliance.


The Laboratory Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, including leading, managing, and developing the operations team, scheduling and coordinating staff activities and responsibilities for a team of 10+ people, coordinating with other managers to ensure work requirements are completed efficiently and accurately every day.


As a key member of the leadership team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:


  • Coordinate work scheduling and laboratory resource allocation based on project demands

  • Supervise and manage adherence to project requirements, QA/QC, and turnaround requirements

  • Assess production capacity and provided solutions for human resources, technical, and quality issues

  • Provide staff development services, career path evaluations and ensures the lab staff is developing necessary skills and abilities for the work today and in the future; oversight and execution of laboratory training program

  • Personnel supervision, time management, and operational efficiency

  • Hiring, firing, and disciplinary actions

  • Conflict resolution, personnel skills development and team building

  • Accurate and timely communication with internal stakeholders; participate in management meetings and lead meetings for staff under your supervision

  • Initiate and address non-conformance issues

  • Oversee and conduct technically demanding and sensitive client projects; support day to day testing

  • Participate in the design and execution of overhead projects designed to improve efficiency of, or accuracy of analyses

  • Work as a partner with the QA group to troubleshoot and resolve assay performance issues

  • Responsible for budget oversight and purchase of laboratory supplies

  • Comply with Enthalpy's Quality Assurance Program and other policies

  • Other duties as assigned by the Lab Director

  • Ensure staff comply with Enthalpy's Health and Safety Plan


YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS



To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


  • Bachelor's Degree in a Science field or equivalent

  • Minimum of 5 years laboratory operations experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory position with multiple direct reports

  • Strong management, leadership, and personnel development skills

  • Experience in laboratory operations (not necessarily in a bioassay laboratory, however some experience with a bioassay laboratory is preferred)

  • Experience training staff on laboratory procedures


PREFERRED SKILLS



  • Effectiveness -Create positive outcomes and results for the staff, clients, and business

  • Conflict resolution skills - Removes/breaks down organizational communication barriers; serves as effective communication conduit between laboratory operations, project management, and QA

  • Assertion Skills - Problem diagnosis and analysis, suggest course of action; solutions oriented

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and maintain composure during stressful times

  • Attention to detail

  • Familiarity with bioassay laboratory analyses, methods, and operations

  • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment

  • Experience in supervising and leading teams; cultural leadership
