Sr. Manager, New Product Development

Summary

Paragon Medical, a business of AMETEK, Inc, serves as a strategic partner in medical device manufacturing, offering an end-to-end supply chain solution from initial concept and product development, to verification and validation testing, to final production, assembly, and ongoing strategic demand planning.

The Sr. Manager of New Product Development is a part of the site leadership team and plans and directs all aspects of the engineering activities and projects within the Mansfield, MA location. He/she will ensure all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with the organization's established policies and objectives. This position will utilize best practice engineering methods and provide expert technical guidance for engineering initiatives.

Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership


  • Actively participate in improving the New Product Development (NPD) function by pursuing opportunities to develop the team's strategies, organization, personnel, and execution of business initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional leaders across the organization to support the Company's goals.
  • Participate in the development of annual business plans that support the long-term strategic growth of the engineering department.
Organizational Development

  • Provide leadership in growing the NPD teams through recruiting top engineering talent, managing and mentoring engineers to provide continuous learning and growth, and leading an NPD team to help drive engineering projects to fulfill company objectives effectively.
  • Actively develop engineers through technical and leadership mentorship.
  • Outline career development plans for technical engineers and managers and provide coaching and feedback to ensure they can grow and succeed in their roles.
  • Create a team environment that supports a strong collaborative drive to succeed with company initiatives while providing learning and growth opportunities.
Functional Planning

  • Support project management by assisting in product development planning and execution, adequately resourcing projects with engineering talent, and ensuring successful execution.
  • Develop detailed budgets to support product development, departmental growth, and business objectives, and continuously manage budgets to ensure ongoing accuracy, support forecasting, and budget reallocations as needed.
  • Partner with Finance to manage the preparation of financial forecasts.
  • Oversee project billing process on a semi-monthly basis to ensure invoices are sent to clients in a timely manner.
  • Identify and recommend technical expertise, trainings, and specific skills necessary for project(s) success.
  • Identify new development and testing tools, facilities equipment necessary for projects; provide the information to appropriate department heads periodically.
Product Development Leadership

  • Partner with Sales, Marketing, and directly with customers to help ensure that prototype development and testing meets customer & regulatory requirements.
  • Interface with experts from outside sources, companies, and forums to maintain an understanding of new developments in medical devices and engineering.
  • Oversee and direct NPD efforts to achieve efficient completion of the clients goals and objectives.
  • Direct and coordinate the planning, scheduling, and budgeting related to NPD activities.
  • Provide technical insight & contributions to new product development projects.
  • Participate in the development of Company standards and procedures.
  • Represent the NPD team in Quality Audit Teams.
  • Manage and oversee monthly project review meetings on progress/status of current projects.
  • Perform internal/independent reviews, as necessary to ensure strategies and goals are executed by the client project teams.
  • Meet regularly with Project Managers to review project progress, risks, issues, and opportunities to effect change; discuss and understand project milestones and changes of scope urgencies.
  • Identify and resolve internal and external issues that affect the ability of the project team to accomplish objectives and maintain high customer satisfaction.
  • Initiate, manage, and develop long term client relationship in coordination with the rest of the project team.
  • Participate in (potential) client conversations and meetings to provide expert knowledge and guidance as it relates to new programs/projects, as necessary.
  • Create and/or review new program proposals advising on approach and the appropriateness of the budget and resource estimates based off execution strategy (appropriate to win the bid); contribute to proposal content and writing, as necessary.
  • Review development and revision of ongoing program proposals, budgets, and resource estimates.
  • Stay abreast of new technologies, processes, and tolls associated with strategies; recommend implementation of technologies wherever logistically and financially justified.
  • Ensure current engineering best practices and tools are used and followed.

  • Up to 25% domestic travel.

Education


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or Biomechanical Engineering required.
  • Master's Degree in Engineering and/or MBA preferred.

Experience
Required:


  • Expertise with ISO 13485, MDD, and FDA QSR requirements
  • 10+ years of product development experience in the medical device industry
  • 7+ years of project management experience
  • 5+ years of leadership experience; management of direct reports required.
  • Experience with SolidWorks.

Skills/Competencies


  • Excellent engineering knowledge, both process and mechanical, to ensure manufacturing excellence.
  • Experience and ability building credibility and negotiating with existing and prospective customers and suppliers.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team setting bringing products from conception through market release and beyond.
  • Proficient in all phases of product development, including design, implementation, verification, validation, and manufacturing.
  • Successful track record of developing new product innovations, including implant and mechanical devices for surgical applications.
  • Experience with P&L responsibility.
  • Successful track record of managing and improving profitable operations.
  • Experience and ability to create and maintain a positive company culture.
  • Excellent interpersonal, managerial, and leadership skills.
  • Exceptional analytical, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, i.e. injection molding, stamping, CNC machining, 3D-printing, etc.
  • Experience with office applications such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Physical Demands

  • Sitting, standing, walking, grasping, climbing, stooping, kneeling, or crawling as required.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 25 lbs.
