Position Summary:



The Student Services Specialist 1 for the TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) STEM Grant is responsible for several critical aspects of grant implementation. The position will be responsible for meeting with potential student participants; explaining the program and requirements for participation; assisting in planning and providing training to students; problem solving and advising; and assisting in planning special events. The Student Services Specialist 1 assists the Program Coordinator and Program Manager in the hiring and supervising program tutors, Federal Work-Study students and volunteers, and assists in the coordination of program workshops, career exploration events and university field trips.


As part of the TRiO SSS STEM team, this position is responsible in providing services from intake to registration, including data entry and tracking student information, dissemination of general information about TRiO SSS STEM, registration and eligibility, facilitating new student interviews, maintaining and updating student contact records, and assisting students in resolving problems.


About TRiO SSS STEM:


This program targets new and current Pima Community College students pursuing post-secondary degrees who are either first-generation (parent/guardian did not complete a 4 year postsecondary degree), low income students, and/or students with disabilities.



The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends and local travel.
This is a 9 month position that works 19.5 hours per week.




Continued employment in the position is contingent upon continued funding through designated external sources. The grant is entering its last year of the grant cycle (09/01/2024 - 08/31/2025), until notified of being renewed for another five years (2025-2030).




Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Assist and inform current PCC students and the community about the TRiO SSS STEM program

  • Assist student in registering for their classes

  • Recruit and determine eligibility for the program

  • Conduct New Student Interviews for the program

  • Ensure consistency of student intake and registration processes between the program and Student Services

  • Navigate database systems, update student records, and compile student reports

  • Assist program participants and prospective participants in resolving issues, concerns, or problems

  • Evaluate operations, processes and make recommendations for improvements or modifications to the grant

  • Collaborate with staff and partner agencies

  • Administer computer-based assessments, including Needs Assessment (Social-Emotional Learning) and administer Individual Service Plans

  • Assist in the organization and implementation of TRiO College workshops, meetings and training sessions




Job Requirements:



  • High School Diploma or GED and

  • Up to one year of related experience


or



  • Candidates who possess similar minimum objective qualifications should describe in detail the education and work experience you regard as establishing the equivalency.


Preferred:



  • Bachelor's degree

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)

  • Background similar to that of project participants

  • Public speaking and group facilitation, to include presenting in front of large groups

  • Strong, clear, and concise verbal and written communication

  • Use of applicable computer programs and equipment

  • Record keeping principles

  • Scheduling principles

  • Preparing reports

  • Prioritizing work and performing multiple tasks

  • Compiling and analyzing data for program management and quality assurance
